Mikel Arteta: Aston La Vista To The Title?

He's done a good job not getting absolutely smashed at Anfield, we were in the game until late and I'm sure some Liverpool fans/players/staff were a bit nervy going into the last 10 after Laca missed the 1on1.

My criticism for Arteta was how safe he played it tonight. He dropped Gabriel (maybe to protect him) dropped Ceballos and didnt play Pepe. On top of that he started the slow Lacazette over Nketiah who could have pressed with more energy and been a threat on the counter.

We are a potentially an extremely quick team in attack so I think we should use that to our advantage in a game like this. We weren't ever going to have much possession of the ball so there was no point playing Willian and Lacazette in some ways (even if it was tough dropping them after a win), thats my opinion.

I've no problem with Arteta, apart from the strange Özil beef. I find what he's doing right now to be boring, if somewhat effective.

However, there does appear to be a kind of placebo by fans here and we've seen it before. Liverpool at Anfield last season under Emery was a very similar setup and performance, and same thing was said by the fans - at least we didn't get steamrolled. Of course, we didn't because we setup that way (in both games).

Key point being, this performance and result is not different from the Emery one (against the same opposition last season). And the conclusions now appear that it's a step forward? Hmm...

I agree with starting the players in 343 formation but should've changed to 4231 or 424 from 65th minute; Liverpool are brilliant but felt we didn't test their defence enough yesterday

It's true though, he's a proper media darling and everyone goes on like everything he does is right and it's exciting times with him in the future.

Being a media darling doesn't equate to "the most overrated manager in the world" agenda.

Try again.

I'm just so sick and tired of having a midfield that cannot compete physically or technically for the last 4-5 years. It's really exhausting and hard to stomach as an Arsenal fan.

I can begrudgingly accept it against the best team in the planet, but it's how pathetic we look even against West Ham at home.

We haven't consistently created lots of chances or had sexy possession play for many years.

If we don't sign two big players over the coming days this season will be yet another write-off.

Arteta did very poorly with his selection last night as well.

Despondent.

How did he do poorly :lol:

I love it, saying the seasons a write off because we lost away to Liverpool ffs. Get a grip.

The main reason for not playing Gabriel is that Arteta knew how Liverpool would press. Needed a CB who was good with both feet centrally. Luiz was the right option.

Well, yeah, I guess. But then who exactly should we "expect" to perform well against? Just Fulham and other trash?

Our standards are very low.

We can’t expect to “trash” anyone. Every game in this league is difficult. It’s really competitive, just how it is. Sheffield will give us a tough game too, I thought they’ve been unlucky in their results their performances were decent.

We don’t have the quality of Liverpool or City to expect to dominate teams but that should he obvious to anyone. You can’t then be disappointed when performances and results match expectations.

Obviously it's a very small sample size but the stat is that only West Brom have fewer shots at goal so far in the PL. Now you give that time obviously, but our very low number of shots taken last season was one of our biggest structural flaws imo, and I really want to see that stat change. We need to take more shots and rely less on high shot conversion.

Main reason for that is the formation.

Lol Emery died for this. Along with his comical English.

Arteta has had results go his way though, so this has been overlooked. Also, it’s Pool on the hunt for the title - not Pool in a cup game already having won the title it’s a different energy. We can’t look too deeply into this loss.

Credit to Arteta for having us walk into this game expecting something.
This is Emery ball though and we’ve been playing it for a while. Our forwards have been bailing us out with superb shot conversion against the run of play for a hot minute.

Chelsea FA cup final and Fulham opening day are the only exceptions. We’ve had a pragmatic cagey approach to every match thus far with Auba and Laca making the most of our 2 chances per game.

Along with his comical English.

People gotta stop perpetuating this myth.

Emery's english has absolutely nothing to do with it. Bielsa still gives his interviews in Spanish, and has a very basic grasp of the language. Pochettino did wonders at Southampton without a word of English. The English thing is such a crap excuse, got nothing to do with it, a good manager gets his ideas and instruction (if he has them) accross, it's not like they're managing league two sides where they can't afford good translators lol, or managing teams without multi-lingual players, such a bollocks excuse for Basque Mark Hughes that one.

This is Emery ball though and we’ve been playing it for a while.

If you can't tell the difference between this and Emery I worry for you. It's brushing over massive differences. It's like calling Pellegrini and Guardiola the same thing or Allardyce and Cholo the same thing just because they share certain stylistic similarities.

Your comment is quite frankly irrelevant because you have nothing to base your assertion on other than his lack of play time which in regards to that specific player may be down to other reasons than pure football ones.

I base my comment on Özil not being good and our team not being good enough, like City with Silva maybe, to compensate for an older player like him who is at this point a specialist.

Kamara is not good enough and renato is a small league player. He has failed to live up to the hype. Camavinga is also all hype.

I'd be really interested to know what these comments are based on, lol. Renato is 23, he has matured a lot at Lille and turned into an interesting 6. I wonder if you've watched Kamara. Camavinga is all hype is face palm (Madrid, Bayern, PSG's scouts and football people quite disagree with you) stuff, I wonder too if you've watched him..

Arsenal Quotes

What does Arsenal mean? It means class. The structure of the Club, everything has a classy feel about it. It isn't always about success, there is more than that and this is what makes it a cut above the rest.
