Mesut Özil: Think This Might Be It For Me(sut)

My guess is Arteta pushed for the pay cut, Özil refused and that for Arteta was a slap. Like Mesut is not buying into the new regime.

Other stuff too, like China etc, saving money by not playing him etc.

Or simply him being not good enough and didn't work hard enough to deserve his spot!
Mikel warned everybody at the beginning. Gave him his chance and didn't take it. Özil has nobody else to blame but himself !

Arteta should banish Özil from the training ground. Let him sulk at home, away from the team.

I don't know if u can.
The same thing happened to Ben Arfa in France when he was playing under Emery at PSG. They ended up banning him from the training ground, Ben Arfa sued the PSG for it and won.

The logic was that you can't ban a player from training ground because he has the right to train there since he's still under contract, to keep his fitness and his rythm to find a new job somewhere else in another club.

I have no idea how it would work in the UK tbf.

I mostly agree with that, china being the least biggest influencer. The china thing only comes into play as it was just another disagreement between the club and Özil but he played after.

Well he puts it across like he turned down a load of money to stay here but we gave him a £73m contract. I bet the difference in value between our offer and the one with the £30m signing in fee was negligible.
Also, Özil is comfy in London. We don't know what club offered it but its likely that he would have preffered to stay in London, Wenger didnt ask too much of him either.

@American_Gooner As the poll result or current standing in the poll is dated and irrelevant now, why not pose the question of why he’s been left out and list the various conspiracies as options? That’d be quite interesting to see.

1. Purely football
2. China
3. Paycut refusal
4. Bit of everything

or something like that?

Why don't Özil and his agent just come out and say the reason he isn't playing because of criticising China or refusing to take a paycut if either of these are truly the reason. The fact that Özil merely just alluded to something like that with the last line in his statement and his agent won't specify means I can't really believe either of them. The only one who's given a reason here is Arteta.

Remember when Wenger dropped him, Emery dropped him, Freddie dropped him, then Arteta dropped him? Remember when it was the manager who was holding him back?

Remember when Özil was gash because Giroud was holding him back, or when it was because Santi was hurt, or when all he needed was a clinical finisher (Laca), or then when it was he simply needed a pacey clinical CF (PEA)? Remember when it was the players around him holding him back?

Remember when he couldn’t perform on the pitch consistently because the English media had it out for him? Or when it was because the German FA had it out for him and they dropped from the German NT, or when it was because of his comments on China, or when Raul personally had it out for him from the inside, or when it was the paycut refusal? Remember when he couldn’t perform because he was the victim of unfair criticism?

Remember when he played really well through all the “limitations” (players, media, manager, etc) in the lead up to his contract and he showed what many knew which was that everything with him comes down to application not ability, but shortly after the ink dried THREE year ago on said contract which made him the second highest player in the entire league his effectiveness fell through the floor and the ever evolving list of excuses for why he can’t be consistently effective came back?

Remember when the club needed him most to step up (send Wenger out on a high, get the club back in the CL via the EL, help stop the club slide down the table in the league, etc) he both figuratively and in some cases legitimately put his feet up on the club?

I remember it all.

Man has taken the club for a ride and it honestly blows my mind anyone that calls themselves an Arsenal supporter can still even attempt to back this charlatan. Some absolute legends graced the shirt at this club, they gave everything to the club and deserve all the effort and admiration, but it’s wild to (still) see so many prop up such a conman here on an Arsenal forum.

I know, what is there to lose now? I’d say he’s stopping just short because he doesn’t want to stink up the place completely and lose support, but he’s already well on the way to stinking up the place if the silly stuff on Twitter continues. I can understand the intense frustration he must feel, but he can’t change anything with Twitter.

So it’s becoming clearer by the day that Arteta is speaking pure bollocks about Özil simply not being good enough. He’s not even being given a chance and Arteta isn’t being honest about why that is. I’d be pissed off too if something’s going on behind the scenes and Mikel comes out and says ‘look he’s simply ****’

A great post that sums up his time here.

He has been good for us but overall especially recently, it hasn't been worth it.

As long as we play badly he is going to be an ominous force over the club unfortunately.

Everyone here knows I’m very much in support of the administration at arsenal and I’m the company man, so to speak.

But we all know the argument of leaving Mesut out for footballing reasons is pure horseshit, especially when guys like Willock/Elneny routinely stink up the joint in midfield.

If I had to speculate, it’s a combination of his criticism of China and the pay-cut refusal.

So as an Agent you have a player that hasn't featured at all since March, who refused to leave the club after being demonstrated that he was surplus to requirements and now you want to play the victim and complain that your player hasn't treated fairly by being left out of a squad that only allows 17/19 Non-HG players...

Boo fvckin' hoo, jog on mate and do one!!

I mostly agree, but there’s a bit of football in there too Imo which enforces Mikel’s belief that he’s making the right decision. It may not be the biggest factor, but I’m sure it’s there.

Özil played every game before the pay cut. It’s not like any of the players now are doing anything Özil couldn’t - Willian, Willock etc. Willian has been a disgrace since he joined.

Absolutely, we know Mesut doesn’t have the work ethic to match what Arteta demands of our players. But I still think that’s not nearly as influential in the decision to leave him out as all of the off-field stuff has been.
