Good first half. A bit quieter in the second but that's credit to saints. The stats and the eye test were closely aligned tonight

He was very good in both halves. That’s the thing with these agendas, defensive midfield performances go completely unnoticed or not given credit. He dropped deeper in the second half and nothing went past him.

Better progressive passing in this one, and playing alongside Partey I think helps Xhaka to simplify his game a bit. Doesn’t change the fact that we need at least one CM pivot addition this summer with Ceballos’s loan expiring, Guendouzi and Torreira likely exits, and Elneny shouldn’t really be anything more than kind of fifth choice across the two CM pivot positions, if he himself is not sold. We lack quality in depth and competition in the squad and it all is too dependent on Partey, including Xhaka.

Hope he keeps his good performances up for the rest of the season. With that we might be able to shift him for something closish to what we spent on him. Anything 10+ m for him and I would be over the moon.

He always seems to turn up in the second half of the season.
He's clearly a better player now than he was when he first arrived...less rash challenges, better positioning, etc...

Partey definitely lights a fire under his arse. Makes him play better too. More progressive in his passing.

Definitely need to sell him in the summer and I hope there's a team who want and can afford a good fee for him.

One of our key players yesterday, great performance overall.

The people wanting to get rid are overreacting a little bit imo, Xhaka is better than most of our midfielders (Ceballos, Elneny, Willock). Let's sell the dross first and keep the Xhaka - Partey partnership for now.

I concur with your sentiment on keeping Xhaka, but why group Willock with the other two? Willock is a talented player and has time on his side to make the step up.

Not a fan of Xhaka but it's good to have two players who can win areal duels in the middle of the pitch and play accurate balls forward.

You're right, but Willock needs a loan with some proper football, so we can't really rely on him. He can't stay here as a squad player imo.

Credit to Xhaka today, much more progressive. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though.

Partey is consistently going to be putting in good / very good performances irrespective of who he's partnered with.

Put Xhaka next to Elneny for the next 5 games and all the old flaws in his game will resurface again.

That's the difference between Partey and Xhaka.

Arteta seems to like him, so it's not likely to happen but if we could get £20m+ for Xhaka in the summer we could upgrade on him fairly easily.

We need Ødegaard, Ceballos & Elneny positions bought in the summer. Makes no sense to sell Xhaka imo. That's one more space to fill then, and players need adjusting.

Exactly right Partey and Elneny were running the show at Old Trafford it’s fair to say Partey is the one making his midfield partner look good. I would be looking to sell Xhaka and find a way to reintroduce Guendouzi back into the squad. We need a new midfielder whether or not we keep Xhaka and selling him will help fund that.

Partey and El Neny midfield got completely dominated by Aston Villa’s midfield. Xhaka and Partey is so so much better.

Partey went off injured against Villa and we were beaten by their wingers who roasted our fullbacks. Xhaka will be back to sh1t once we face a high energy pressing midfield. He’s only looking good against tired opposition.

Southampton’s one of the most renowned pressing outfits in the league and Xhaka handled their press comfortably twice now.

Granit Xavi turns to sh1t when he’s pressed he’s the most useless DLP I’ve seen at a top club. Barely good enough for this new era 5th-8th place side we’ve become if we have any ambitions to play in the CL he simply has to go.
