Edu & Vinai: The Dream Team

its all since the kroenkes bought the club. we are an investment. like an apartment you rent while you know nothing of maintaining it. paying what you must to get paid by rent each month. a dysfunctional model where you try to save on your managers and directors, being impressed by unclear passion in favor of reality.
well.
let see how much can we fall until someone wakes up.
i can assure you, with this bunch, nobody will resign!

Edu alone was always bad idea but now we need stability can't change another DOF we'll have to get Overmars so both can work together. Josh also need to be more involved.

We'll end up like Schalke change DOF every year we already had Sven raul Ivan in space of 4 years. I'm honestly not surprised by the result the planning after wenger was poor there no vision or long term plan just short term fixes and hope new manager be like miracle worker like klopp.

For me in modern football be more smart and have good scouting network is important because now football is competitive specially in PL

I’d rather bin this clown than Arteta tbh. You can’t have two complete rookies at DoF and manager, it’s never going to end well.

As bad as Arteta has us playing, the board and Edu have thrown him under the bus.

Edu signed Partey well after the season started on the last day so he didn’t have a pre-season and time to acclimatise to the new team even though we could’ve paid the release clause any time.

He knew we’d have no creativity with the Özil situation but spends all summer haggling with Aulas for so long that Aouar himself has enough and says he’d rather stay.

Meanwhile decent options like Eze and Raphinha are able to move under our nose to midtable teams even though they’d be starting for us.

Can’t shift any of our 9 center backs so panicked two days before the window shuts then tries and fails to sort a loan out for Saliba back to France leaving him in limbo when he’s no

Then he ends up having to cancel a bunch of contracts in January even though there had been supposed interest in players like Mustafi and Sokratis for a few years.

The only edge he gives us is managing to bring in Kia’s guys on bumper wage packets. We need him gone with a proper DoF brought in immediately.

Great take on the situation!

I argue also at the moment it is easier to get top DoF in than a manager.

You don’t think Arteta had a massive say in all of that though? I think Edu’s all in on Mikel and has gambled on him turning into Wenger, somebody that can do his job for him as well as coach the team.

The Partey signing sounds like it was Edu’s choice to leave it late, but the Saliba/CB situation is as much on Mikel as Edu. The biggest issue is his link with Kia. Willian has set us back years, another 24 months of them forcing him into the team.

Compare this guy with Michael Edwards at Liverpool who has been there since 2011 making good decisions. His experience combined with Klopps coaching ability was the reason that club won the league. A team effort.

Everybody in our team is inexperienced and making poor choices.

At the end of the day it comes down to ambition and standards. A club with higher standards, we all know who they are, would have acted to stop this decline a long long time ago. Whether that means firing a manager or the DoF or investment or whatever, it comes from the top.

On the one hand we have spent a lot of money recently under Kroenke, but it can't just be about that. If you spend a lot of money but then don't care about how successfully it's used, you're still shwing lack of ambition.

It comes down to Kroenke, always has done, going back 10-15 years now.

For me, a move for someone like Ralf Rangnick as DOF, not only gives us proven experience in the role, but it also starts a genuine countdown clock on Arteta's position as manager. That can only be good for us, because either Mikel is able to adjust and work with a proper DOF, or he gets the boot.

It cant end there though, we need to see the end of the Kroenke ownership at Arsenal. We will be going nowhere with a half arsed owner who shows his face and throws money when there isnt any other option.

The Ragnick ship has sailed. Mislintat was the one who could have really done something here and we messed it up.

I'm not sure how the board and Edu have thrown him under the bus honestly. Partey joining us 4 weeks later in October has an affect on how we're playing in April? Deadline day transfers happen all the time, I'm not sure why this situation is unique; release clause or not. He came here match fit, he'd already played a couple of La Liga games for Atletico. They committed 46 million on Partey, that's a big sign of confidence and backing the guy, not throwing him under the bus.

Guendouzi maybe a tool but he's done way more in his time here than anything Ceballos, El Neny and Partey put together. Who's decision was it to completely ostracize him and basically do away with 2 years worth of development we'd committed to as a club?

Özil situation was self induced by Arteta. Why would the hierarchy want a guy being paid 350k a week be shunned completely from the pitch? It makes no sense. Özil has his own baggage for sure but exile him completely from the team was ridiculous.

Eze and Raphinha actually play for experienced managers, not a rookie who's looking more like a deer in the headlights. Even if we got them, Willan would be starting over them or Laca being some hybrid AM/false 9 rubbish.

Why is our 30 million investment in one of the hottest CB prospects from the year before being binned? I agree regarding the remaining CBs. Arteta determined he's not good enough, he's owning Ligue 1 right now. Although Mustafi's been on the market since Wenger's time without any takers. Considering the lack of movement in the market last summer, it's not surprising or unexpected.

Completely agree on the dodgy Kia handouts.

There are a lot of issues that should be put on Edu's shoulders but our position in the league table with this squad is not one of them. The product on the pitch and team selection is a coaching/management issue.

Liverpool had to get rid of Ian Ayre before their transfer situation improved, might need to do similar with Edu.

Liverpool success more down to klopp than Edward's. Edward's very good selling players but thier deals before klopp were poverty they only buy players from Southampton lol

Signings players shouldn't be on DOF hands it'll never end well coaching staff and manager know the current squad weaknesses not the DOF who'll of course go sign players they like from agents they know wenger didn't like work with DOF and there is clear reason why is that.

Didn’t they bus Coutinho for £11m before Klopp came, wouldn’t call that poverty. They sold him for £121m to really push on for their league title campaign. And Suarez for £23m wasn’t too shabby, selling him for ££75m. There’s a whopping £160m profit. None of that on Klopp.

Not really how this works when done right. The DoF is the one longterm responsbile for tailoring a squad suited to a certain identity and hiring coaches/managers who also fit the same identity. Or e.g. rebuild/restructure a squad according to a change in club philosophy and then hiring managers according to that.

I know for a fact e.g. Mislintat doesn't just go out and signs players on his own cause of data or agents, he works in tandem with coach Matarazzo to work out what the squad needs and then goes out to find that. Max Eberl has said that when he signed Marco Rose from Salzburg he was in close contact to him months before Rose actually joined Gladbach to work with him on transfer targets.

In the case of CEOs, DoFs, managers and coaches, sometimes people see things to clearcut in terms of hierarchy and someone being someone else's boss and blocking them or working on their own or whatever. These multi person setups are - at best - actual teams working together for the benefit of their doubt by all of them bringing in their competence and knowledge.

They did do some good business before here and there - Torres, Suarez, Coutinho, Alonso, Mascherano etc - but never managed to actually build an overall very good squad. But the tandem of Klopp bringing in his philosophy and Edwards being very good at bringing these players in has definitely lifted them up another step from when before those two took charge around 2015.
