It is essentially the establishment of a European three tier cup competition, in time you have to wonder if it will be turned it a semi-league structure.

7th place still has a shot for EL qualification with a team finishing in the top 6 winning the FA Cup. I agree, we should still be taking PL games seriously

Officially the League Cup Winners will be England's entrants in the Europa Conference League

So City or Sp**s will qualify.
However, if the winner qualifies for Europe via another path, the spot will go to the side finishing in the highest Premier League spot that isn't already a Champions League or Europa League spot: sixth place.

BUT...winning the FA Cup still leads to a Europa League place – if the winners have already qualified for Europe via the league - and Southampton aren't winning the Cup this season - so then sixth place becomes another Europa League spot, and seventh place becomes the Europa Conference League spot.

We still have to take PL games seriously though.
There is St. Totteringham's Day and the chance that Leicester, West Ham, or more probably Sp**s will implode.

6th place has to be the target, we're 7 points off, with 7 games to play.
7th place is the minimum requirement in the League if we fail to win the Europa League, and we really have to strive to achieve that placing.

Arsenal belong in Europe.

The working title of the Europa Conference League was Europa League 2

They are 'cup' competitions yet they are quite clearly labelled as 'league' competitions.

Interesting!

and certainly no 'semi' about it!

This whole Europe Conference League thing is such a dumb idea.

The idea behind it should be to have a European competition for smaller leagues that smaller teams actually have a chance to win - end up with a Celtic-Molde final or whatever.

But as soon as you're putting the 6th-7th place team from England/Spain/Italy/Germany into the competition, you've basically just pointlessly created two identical Europa leagues because the difference between the 5th and 6th place team in all of those leagues is non-existent. And those teams will batter the Conference competition the same way they currently batter the EL. And all that does is further devalue the prestige of winning the EL.
It would be a little less tedious and redundant if the winner got to play the qualifying round of CL. Like what 4th place before it became CL group stage qualification.

I just don't get the absurdity of having the 5th place teams from the big 5 leagues enter one competition and the 6th place teams enter another and acting like they're significantly different. All they're doing is creating two Europa leagues that will have roughly equal quality teams in the Semis of each next season. The Europa was already a bit of a consolation prize but all they're doing is diluting it further and further reducing the prestige of winning.

I would love to see a European comp that teams from smaller leagues could actually compete for and win but this isn't the case at all with this.

A lot of people are acting like getting into the EL is 'pretty decent' but the EC is embarrassing, but I don't see that at all - they're basically exactly the same thing.

I know im about to jinx it but....we have yet another chance to catch the spuds. That and the Europa league would make this season a success for me considering all the sh!t that has happened.

Not this again please. All the other teams above us would have to be fed dodgy lasagna before each of their matches and we’d need some fairy dust before ours for this to happen

As you say, probably too late for Champions League, through the league at least...just incase we don't win the Europa though, we have to at least get into the wonderful Europa Conference through league placement

A lot of our performers from last night won’t need resting. Saka is probably the only one that shouldn’t be starting here, not when Martinelli and Pepe have shown good form.
Saka recently had 3 weeks off, you actually want him building up fitness. Even if his fitness is back to normal then he’s fine to play twice a week.

Expecting auba won't train but Ødegaard now is 2 weeks not training and it's worrying we need every possible player that will force us to play saka ESR again.

Auba Ødegaard again out for tomorrow game. Ødegaard back to training next week

Positive news that Tierney will be back in 3 weeks. So if we make it to final he'll be available.
