I had almost written Newcastle off as they would need European qualification form from their remaining 19 games to hit 40 points. However the 5 teams at the bottom are so poor and all averaging less than a point a game so it could take a lot less than 40 points to survive this season, maybe even beat the current record low of 34 which saw West Brom stay up in 2004/05.

I know teams at the bottom generally pick up more points in the 2nd half of the season as mid table teams have nothing to play for but at current PPG the final table would be,

Leeds 34 Pts
Watford 29 Pts
Burnley 28 Pts
Newcastle 22 Pts
Norwich 20 Pts

It really is all to play for at the bottom, any of those teams could have a good January window and go on a bit of a run and get out of trouble.

...yeah, they will want to join the club because of a 2005 film (which was pretty decent) and not because they will be getting paid obscene amounts of Saudi oil money, ffs!

Losing to Cambridge united in the FA cup. I know they are missing strikers but if they can’t win games like this they will have trouble convincing some of their transfer targets that a bid to stay in the Prem is nothing but a pipe dream.

Game over, Cambridge United win on Newcastle’s home ground, with a Newcastle fielding their current strongest side. Upsets happen, but when it happens to a relegation threatened team, it feels different.

No wonder they want to buy as much they could to survive they can't even score against Cambridge at home. They really bit lucky Watford and Burnley they as bad as them they might end up surviving.

Wow thats bad, I know we're still only early in January but the talk has all been about 'when the window opens' the form will turn around, losing to Cambridge at home is bad for morale and shows just how crap they are up there.

Even with signings you could be looking at Mid-Feb to March before they start to gel and perform and it could be all over by then.

They've also had no manager bounce at all.

If this was away to Cambridge it wouldnt be as bad but at home its embarrassing and shows how much determination is in that squad to turn there form around.

Watford been spending the money and should get Sarr back soon.

They’re our best chance now of seeing off the Geordies tbh.

Might be a bit hard for some of them knowing that if they do manage to turn things around they are going to be replaced anyway.

Might be a bit hard for some of them knowing that if they do manage to turn things around they are going to be replaced anyway.

Also the difficulty is getting a good striker to go there. ASM and Wilson are good but get injured a lot.

Another issue is the manager. Eddie Howe cannot coach a defence. At Bournemouth he conceded 65+ goals in all but one season in the PL despite having a net spend in the top 5.

The year Bournemouth got relegated they even had some decent pieces. Ramsdale, Ake and Diego Rico have all gone on to bigger clubs but they kept the same number of clean sheets as Norwich.

Then finally you have them scrambling to hire a new DoF during the January window so who’s buying the players right now?

They’re linked with Dan Ashworth who himself has a large number of flops during his time at Brighton and has failed four or five times to get even a PL quality striker.

They might get lucky but they look a bit of a shambles still.
