Mikel Arteta: Managerial Royalty

GDeep™

League is very weak
I don’t buy the excuse that Emery didn’t want Pepe. If he was so against it he could have made that clear to the board and they would’ve listened. They won’t sign a player who the manager says no to.
Emery was the coach, people above him were signing the players. That was the structure, it’s not an excuse.

The structure then changed when Arteta won the FA Cup, Raul was let go and Arteta became the manager and not just a coach.

Would you say you were harsh on Emery in hindsight? Calling him a bumm, ugly freak etc.
I never called him an ugly freak ffs .

I don’t know if I was harsh on him. He didn’t help himself by bottling top 4 and getting battered by Chelsea. Was horrible the next season too.

Some of you guys are posting without even having basic knowledge of how the club was working at various times.
Agreed. You've contradicted yourself multiple times and doubled down. Terrible posting.

Thanks for tagging me, because I don't really read your posts tbh because you post outlandish stuff just to get attention. Lidl @UpTheGunnerz
@OnlyOne has swung from one of the biggest Wenger haters to one the biggest Arteta shills along with the rest of the Drippin crowd. top 4 = stagnation blah, blah, but Arteta 8th, 8th, 5th is exciting, blah, blah.

One day he'll wake up, like cultists do and think WTF have I been thinking, like coming out of a hypnosis trance. Don't give up on him.

It's complete nonsense and pure waffle.

Just admitting you got bored of Wenger and wanted to see someone else try something else would be way less embarrassing I think.
Yup that’s where I was. I felt we’d hit a ceiling with Arsène, for his own sake he needed to go. He had faults that frustrated me but I don’t know how people have the energy/gall to go to bat for Mikel in the Wenger vs Arteta debate. It’s not even a contest, Mikel will get top 4 if we go and buy a load of good players for him......that’s pretty much him to me.

I can’t say I miss the Wenger days tbh (apart from the Highbury ones), but even if you just take those Emirates years he’s shown more managerial talent than Mikel has and yet Arteta is treated like the prodigal son (not necessarily here but on Twitter/The Athletic) for doing what exactly?? Having a patch between December and March where we looked like a TOP 4, not 1st, but top 4 level team.......yeah it’s weird.

I’m always positive. Don’t forget i wanted Arteta straight after Wenger left.

Sometimes you have to be real though and that shouldn’t be taken as negativity.

Either way, it’s all set up for next season, seems like Arteta will have everything he wants to get top 4.
I’m fairly sure the 70m was financed by a 3rd party. I think it was a fairly normal deal from Lille’s perspective but we paid in the way we wanted to pay plus some interest.

Raul: I’m not buying Zaha I’m going to buy Nico Pepe.
Unai: No No No I do not want Pepe, calm! Calm!
Raul: f u Unai, I don’t care what you say I will buy Pepe anyway!

… Not a conversation I can imagine happening.

Of course that conversation didn’t happen. More like Unai saying “let’s sign Zaha” and Raul saying “he’s too expensive upfront, Pepe deal is easier to do”.

Point is with Emery there's a lot of re-evaluating his spell in hindsight.

He was aware of the circumstances around the club and the management situation when he took the job. He was willing to work under those constrictions. That's on him.

I think he's a good manager but I don't have too much sympathy for him with how it panned out at Arsenal.

He's a cup specialist that overperforms at clubs he doesn't have to deal with too much pressure or handle big egos. He is a Villarreal / Sevilla level manager at the end of the day.

Lovely guy but I don't think he'd have worked out here even in better circumstances to be honest.

Unai knew the Pepe signing was happening. If Unai was so against the signing of Pepe he would/could have stopped it.

Of course he knew it was happening, just like he knew Dani Cebellos was happening despite wanting someone else (who’s name I forget).

He was coach though, not manager.

Arsenal Quotes

I still have an interest in training and development, in the stages that make it possible for players first to acquire technique (between 7 and 12) and then to develop physically (between 12 and 16), then to deepen their mental resilience (between 17 and 19) and finally between 19 and 22 to acquire what is critical, like the roof of a house without which all the rest rots away: intelligence and motivation
