No u can get tagliafico for 4M. Gentleman’s agreement, Ajax wrecked about 3-4 transfers for him last couple of years including Barcelona last winter. Tagliafico wants to go somewhere he can go for that little a sum, he has earned it ten fold.

Didn’t know that. Bit of a bargain for someone then. He should have a lot more options than Brighton in that case.

That’s just the risk of signing players to suit the manager’s style. If the club wants to back the manager, they must take those risks. Any rewards always have risks.

And to add the scouting system, we just sacked two our leading scouts in the club and I don’t think we have replaced them and it will take times for the scouts to be adjusted to ten Hag’s criteria of players. So it’s not big surprised at all. For first summer signings, it’s similar to Klopp first summer signings where he signed 4 players from bundesliga and 2 PL players.

Ten Hag is a top coach but I think putting him largely in charge of transfers is problematic. It seems Overmars and co were in charge of recruitment for Ajax. So now Hag is mainly looking at the best players he's already coached. As good as they are it perhaps limits the level of player you could potentially recruit and might be an issue going forwards

Players signed at Ajax because Ten Hag wanted them: Magallan, Promes, Labyad. 2 gigantic failures and one currently hiding in Russia because he’s being prosecuted for stabbing his nephew at a party.

Ronaldo leaving is a disaster for United. Cannot understand anyone playing this down.

He was United’s only legitimate goal scorer last season. To take that away in the middle of a rebuild where they have massive holes in their squad already is very bad news for them.
It really isn’t.

Utd scored 73 league goals the season before without Ronaldo. Scored 57 last season. Their squad hasn’t changed that dramatically, but the dynamic of their attack with Ronaldo in it has.

He get goals for himself but the actual flow of the team suffers for it.

You’ve only got to look what it’s done to fernandes, he’s basically a 1 goal in 2 games player. Ronaldo joins, then that drops to nearly a 1 in 4. Coincidently, a very similar ratio to that of his numbers when playing for the national team.

De Jong again want to stay at barca all reliable barca media reporting despite things are close between barca and manutd. Laporta coming out yesterday and saying he expect de Jong to stay so why you negotiate with utd

It's a PR thing probably to protect the image. They did the same thing to Messi last year and Messi still left.

Wait so Brighton pick up an actual left back from Ajax for £4m, and we're going for their CB - to play at left back - and the price is north of £40m... How does that work?! Is there really such a difference between the two?

Also, this one might mean that a Zinchenko deal is on.
Tagliafico is 30 years old next month. Not the profile Arsenal has been targeting.

They clearly now have money to spend, so they're not buying some stop-gap who has spent his whole career at Holland. They want someone who they know will start, and Martinez looks very solid player, perfect for the inverted LB role.

Remember that getting Martinez as LB would likely let us sell Holding, so it gives us some of the money back.

Yes but they had Cavani, Greenwood and Pogba adding a good deal of those goals who are all gone. Then they received a shedload of penalties with 11. They had 12 and 14 the seasons before that. Maybe VAR is taking away some of their pens

I really wonder how much United has to spend now, and what areas they target. Ronaldo ****housery came at a very bad point, earlier would have been better for them.

For sure they are betting on Van de Beek hitting form under Ten Hag. Maybe that will be their Pogba replacement now. But that's pretty hopeful.

It would be some miracle if Ronaldo lets all of his contract go. But might happen if United play hardball. But that hardball will risk Ronaldo staying and making the whole next season very toxic.

Getting a starting striker in this market, after the clear one's are already gone, will be some tough job to do. And it will take money away from other areas to improve. Ten Hag has some job at his hands.

Can they afford Martinez or De Jong now? Even Everton got Richarlison money, so someone like DCL with 3 years in contract won't be cheap, and has those injury worries etc.

Maybe they buy Zaha for cheap? But does he want to go back there? Anyone know their relationship?

Pogba got 3 goals the season before Ronaldo came with greenwood getting 7.

Added sancho who on paper you’d have expected to add more to their attacking numbers. He’s gone from playing with an all action CF in haaland, to Ronaldo who cannot run in behind.

Cavani fits their style much better, dynamic, ridiculous work ethic & up there with the best in the world with regard his movement. He’s the big loss for them, not Ronaldo if he goes.

I imagine they got less penalties because their attacking play was terrible and they therefore spent less time in the box.

I reckon De Jong would probably rather retire now, than play for a team with Harry Maguire as captain.
