Jesus was doing attacking midfield things so it’s actually the three behind the striker who need to step up. The team will have to evolve and that won’t be on Eddie.

I think all he has to do is contribute defensively, not ruin the build up play and convert a good amount of his chances. I don’t mind him keeping it simple in the final third either because expecting him to replace Jesus like for like is just setting him up to fail.

Not even close to G.Jesus quality.
not much in it TBH.
Jesus has a clear edge on tight control and beating players.
I think where it’s bigger than an edge is purely about standing and confidence.
There is far less between players than fans like to think - they like their heroes and villains.
World Cup is showing it again. It usually does.

I don't see this. He was dropping, holding up the ball, winning duels, and facilitating rotations with Martinelli. An AM wants to do other things like receive in pockets, create, make late runs

Sorry but Eddie is no where near Jesus quality and I mean absolutely nowhere.

Will be sad to see him stranded up top waiting for service that isn't going to arrive because the guy he's replacing was the one moving the ball forward in the first place

His best bet would be playing very close to Saka and ignoring Martinelli exists.

Obviously a big drop in career accomplishment from Jesus, and a somewhat smaller one in terms of ability. But based upon his play the last weeks of last season, he knows the role, and this is literally what we signed him for.

Time to step up and seize the chance with both hands like Saka did, or fade into the background like Nelson did way too often. We'll find out soon enough.

Too much hate going on, he looked a capable back up before we started shoving him wide.

Even if you rate him. (I don’t) you think it’s wise to play rest of the season as him the only striker. Jesus is out for 3 months. That length of injury sometimes has setbacks and if he does then it’s nketiah as only striker or move wide players around. What if nketiah get injured? We simply short no matter how people twist it. It’s just irresponsible to say 2/3 of the league season we will continue with 1 striker

I would even argue Jesus is a better finisher than Eddie that goal he scored against Leicester was very difficult don't think any odd player can pull that off.

Exactly. This was always the issue with going into a season with only 2 strikers. Its madness tbh. I was saying at start of season what if 1 gets a lengthy injury. Some people on here said having 3 was too many.

We sat on top of league & only have 1 fit recognised striker. It's crazy.

I think we will see a forward player come in, but maybe not necessarily a striker. I think Arteta will simply shift positions around a bit & reintegrate ESR until Jesus returns.

Besides, buying a decent striker in January is difficult. Especially when you are quite selective like Edu & Arteta.

Well Arteta and Edu got away with botching last season. They are lucky Arsenal fans are the least demanding fans of any big club and the ones with the shortest memory. They should have gotten a striker last season when they banned Auba and paid for it. They will pay for it this season as well and no questions again

And some will say well Auba left last day of the window. Auba was banned 6th of December and never made the squad again

To everyone saying we should give Eddie a chance. Even if he's gonna start 10 PL games in a row for us, he cant always play 90mins and cant start EL and FACup games as well. We need a ST if Jesus is out for 3 months.
We have ESR back and Nelson playing better than expected. Put that Winger Money/Wages towards a striker that can compete with Nketiah if Jesus is really out for 3 months. If that striker can play on the wing too like Jesus, even better but i think we should aim for specialists and asses the winger situation in summer..see how ESR comes back and all.
And dont give me that Martinelli can play as a ST. Even if he could..
every semi realistic person knows that Martinelli will start all PL games and he will start from the left wing. And when he needs a rest, it's not to play ST but it's the bench.
You dont take a brilliantly working system and shred it because of one injury.
Like Arteta said. If you can, you make one change and not two (as to why Jesus played ST and Nketiah out wide in the EL)..
I still have the hope that Jesus is out for one month and we can push that operation towards summer.

It’s dependent on how long Jesus is out for so they’ll be waiting to hear back from the doctors. If it’s say 4-5 weeks then Nketiah could probably handle that. If it’s like 12 weeks or more than even if they trust Nketiah to deputise, which they obviously will initially, you still need an extra body to rotate cos Nketiah can’t play 90 mins every game for 3 months.

So if it’s a bad injury to Jesus the question is whether they find an internal solution to rotate, ESR/Martinelli, or external.

Honestly it’s a pretty sh*t situation and I’m not sure what I’d do if I were Eduteta.

ESR himself is coming back from a bad injury btw, so if people think the ESR from last season is gonna come straight back that might not be the case. Also something to bear in mind.

Club has to line up a striker in the next two weeks. We have two games to get through before the window opens and then it’s FA Cup games.

I’m worried Martinelli won’t be back for Boxing Day because if Brazil win the final they’ll be going to Rio for a big parade.

If England make the final Saka probably won’t be back for Boxing Day either, especially if he’s starting every game with Sterling back home.

Don’t know what would happen with Ramsdale or Saliba if they made the final. I’d assume they’d be available for us because they’re unlikely to play a single minute.

We also have no word on White either. I think worst case scenario we’re looking at:

Ramsdale
Tomiyasu - Saliba - Gabriel - Zinny
MØ - Partey - Xhaka
Nelson - Nketiah - ESR

Worth mentioning that if Saka made the final and was given a longer leave of absence same would be true of Rice for West Ham. Also have Aguerd still in the tournament. Think we can grind it out against them.

Brighton away with the above line up is a bit worrying though.
