What did Martinelli cost us? £7m? Look at it like this: £200k p/w roughly equates to £10m a year; he would cost anywhere between £80-100m in the current market so the amount of money we've saved to enable us to strengthen other areas of the squad is incredible.

£200k p/w is market rate for his importance to the club and his talent. It's just how it is.

His wage inflates everyone else's though. Ødegaard and Partey will need extending next season, Jesus, White and Zinchenko the season after. Before you know it everyone in the first team is on £200k or more. That's all well and good while we are where we are (top of the league and in the CL) but with the new FFP (salary and player spending can only be 80% of turnover) all it takes is a year or two out of the CL and you're ****ed if you've got a massive wage bill.

Luckily it's only your opinion. 300k for someone who's had one great season(and is having a great one) is way over the top

He’s been consistently great for more than one season and is the face of Arsenal and arguably England now. He should sack his agent if 200k is the most he can get out of Arsenal.

He’s also got a 2 years left. Every club in the country would pay Saka 250/300k to have him at their club.

That's not true mate. Arsenal is a capitalist entity, not socialist lol.

Maybe

You're wrong, no?
Martinelli is a level above the Ukrainian farmer at this time. You can't be serious and think Mudryk *at this time* is better?
OK, in 3 weeks we'll have a different conversation. I don't even think Martinelli should be a starter for us anymore.

Looks like I'm the only person on this forum who think Martinelli is nothing more than an ok-ish player

So if Arsenal offer him 200k a week he should just leave for the sake of making a few quid? He should just go to play in a 1 team French league for more money like Mbappe?

Or should he go to La Liga were there may only be 1 team actually competing if Barca end up ****ed.

Or maybe he fancies a few brown envelopes under the table and some nice pizza in Turin.

Or maybe the lure of Oktoberfest is drawing him to Munich along with an extra 30k a week.

This whole idea that if a player COULD get more elsewhere then we have to offer what they COULD get offered. Which is stupid. There's more to football and a career than money. Especially at the start of your career. Not the end.

Is he happy in London, does he love the club? Does he see it going in a positive direction? Does he feel an integral part or just another cog? If players only considered money they'd be playing in Saudi Arabia.

I think getting him under a long term contract is good news. My problem is that we've only extended his deal by 1 year. Considering he's getting much more money, we probably could have got him on 5 1/2 year deal at least. The wage of 180k is relatively low though

Saka and Saliba are only 18months to run which is scary
He had contract until 2024 and an option for two years. Which would make it until 2026.

Now he has until 2027 with an option to extend by a year. So 2028.

So he got that 5,5 year contract.

He’s well within his rights to be asked to be paid his market value, as is anyone in employment in any industry.

If 200k was deemed acceptable then he’d have already signed the contract let’s be honest. It’s Arsenals job to pay their players what they’re worth.

Once you’re top of the league and every other club in the world is looking at your showcased talent, you’re players are in the driving seat when it comes to contract extensions. The club will either have to pay it or run down contracts. Martinelli has been ripping clubs apart with his pace so £200K is probably about right these days.

Our wage bill will soon be massive, no doubt about it.

But what someone is worth in one situation isn't the same in every situation. It's completely different.

Ronaldo is 37 and past it. He's earning millions a week. Should Saka say, I'm better than him so Arsenal you have to pay me that amount.

Or Haaland for example. He could say...I'm as important to Arsenal as Haaland is for City. I want 400k a week.

Sancho is on the bench at United and he's on 300k or something. I want that.

You can look at the highest level. But there's tonnes of players on less than "Anthony" for example.

I've given the example of Vinicius. Reports in Spain say he earns €200k a week or just short of that.

Foden at his peak last season was on about 120-130k.

Harry Kane is on 200k a week. He's been an elite level striker for about 6-7 seasons.

So you can argue....Saka is better than Sancho so he should get more than him. However it could also be argued that he isn't as good as Kane or he hasn't achieved what Foden has who earn less than 250k a week.

Personally I think Sakas offer/contract will be around the 200k mark. And he will be happy with that. I don't think he's gonna be looking at Anthony or Sancho with envy or moving to Qatar to earn "the market value". Plus if reports are correct United are planning on capping their salary now at 200k.

Been a key part of like only the second time we have properly challenged for the league since we moved stadiums in 2006, successfully benched an inform ESR last season imo, has pundits and other managers constantly talk about how great he is (Klopp won't shut up about how much he wants to adopt him ffs!) and is only 21 an can only get better and the other top clubs will definitely have been watching him.

But not deserving of a new contract for AM, smh.

Money is mad in football these days so who cares, he's been very good for us and deserves to get paid really.

DEEEEEEE-lighted with this news but not surprised, feel all our players will commit to new deals soon...will be shocked if any of our main players leave in the summer.

No, I'm with you ... kind of.

Martinelli is a fantastic player, but he is a level below Saka. Having a Saka clone or someone on his level on the left wing would take Arsenal a notch higher.

Ideally with current resources, I would stick Jesus on the left and rotate Balogun/Nketiah in the forward role. Martinelli is a great player, but will never be world class. Maybe border on it, but hasn't got enough skills to be in that bracket. Saka though... one of the best RW in the world right now.

Ronaldo is the most famous planet on planet earth and arguably ever, they’re not paying him because of what he can offer them on a pitch. Not a fair comparison.

Harry Kane signed that deal what, 5 years ago? The markets moved on. His next contract will be far greater than that I assure you.

The club will pay Saka what his agent demands, he is to valuable to the club on numerous levels for us to not come to an agreement.

It you want world class players at your club you have to pay them accordingly.
