Its absolutely true that the season is a failure if we fail to win the league.

To me it would be disappointing given where we are now.

I don't think I could call Arsenal finishing 2nd an outright failure though.

It will have been a massive leap forward from the level we've been at for a decade or so.

i'm waiting to see what his approach in CL because in CL you simply don't rotate unless there injures specially in knock out stages. apart from his FA cup run first season Arteta simply either don't care about the cup competitions or he just approach it wrongly. because our performance in league and cups is huge difference in league we look prime Barcelona in cups we look lower mid-table club. there lack of balance

So really either we need to significantly upgrade our back ups up to that level which will cost a fair bit of money or we need a different plan of action for our B / C sides.
The squad will be quite complete after next summer, and there should be quite much funds. Buying someone like Fresneda as inverted RB isn't very expensive. It's phase 3 out of 5.

Since the league is rather atrocious this season i dont think we will get a chance like this for a long time. So for me it would be a big failure.

and not winning the league won't be failure we finished 8th 8th 5th the leap we made this season is big and show us where we are heading. still we can win the league if we keep being consistent.

We have been at the top of the table most of the season. Of course it will be a failure. Just like it was a failure when we bottled 4th to Sp**s last season.

Yeah but that's independent of the Europa. So even if we'd won the EL it wouldn't make up for not winning the PL given the reasons you just stated (which I agree with btw)

That FA Cup was Aubas, I give Arteta little stick for the first 8th place finish so he gets little credit for a trophy where he ran the ones responsible out the club anyways.
Trying to take the FA cup away from Mikel is just a weird level of hate. Got his tactics spot on against superior teams, playing a back 5 and Auba out wide.

Blaming him for finishing 8th in his first half season is also bizarre. Only Liverpool, City, United and Chelsea (by +1) picked up more points than Arsenal after Mikel took over (despite taking over a club in literal free fall). So yeah, it’s probably a good thing you’re not giving him too much stick for that.

He literally says he's not blaming Mikel for the first 8th, so he's also not praising him for the FA cup?

For virtually all of our lives a result like tonight puts us through on away goals and we don't say ****. I'm actually really disappointed to be knocked out because I love European football and European nights, but as incredibly critical as I have been of Arteta and our performances over the past few years I genuinely thought we played well enough over both legs to go through.
I think if we played anywhere near well enough then we would have gone through.

We weren't desperately unlucky...both games were close and both keepers made huge saves. These guys are 4th in Portugal, we should have gone through.

That goal was 1 in a 100 and Adan went peak Casillas.

Charge it.

Yeah Adan made fantastic saves Yesterday he had game of his life G.Jesus Trossard and Gabriel all were goals if he didn't react quick. we had 9 attempts on target yesterday and these guys managed score goal from middle of pitch somehow ffs.

in CL i don't think we'll make deep run specially if we finish 2nd in group stage. we not ready for that yet in fact we few levels behind the elite also our manager does need to improve his approach.

Nah man. Two of the guy's big saves were off set plays. How many big chances did we create from open play? We had multiple periods across two legs where we just didn't play well. If we played well enough we would have won.

Anyway for me the worry is the bigger picture, when you apply context it's always easy to justify but that's now cup exits to Olympiacos, Nottingham Forest, Villareal, Brighton and Sporting Lisbon.

It just doesn't look good when you list it like that.

Trossard and Vieira had big chances open play no?

A deep cup run is a must next season. No two ways about it.
Personally I don’t really care about the domestic cups that much but I just can’t see us getting far in the CL. Our Europa performances been kind of embarrassing under Mikel and the domestics cups not much better.

I think you can really see his inexperience when it comes to managing cups with league games. He got too used to Man City that had 40 first team players and all the money of UAE.

Yeah and that makes no sense.

Arteta picked up more points that season any other club apart from City, United, Liverpool and Chelsea (by +1), despite taking over a club in free fall, and then masterminded an FA cup win against the odds.

But he doesn’t deserve credit for the cup win because the club were nearer the relegation zone than top 4 before he took over?

I'm not saying we didn't create any but they also had big chances too. Focus on open play and it's not that dominant. We struggled for large periods.
I don't want to get bogged down in the performances but us being knocked out isn't some kind of robbery. I'm not really having that.

I'm also not saying that we were horrible but I am saying that the big picture doesn't look good. I just listed 5 cup exits to inferior opposition. This is the downside to him being a specialist. Are we resigned to poor cup performances until we have a Man City style second team?
