We really are pigeons. Why are we letting him go so early ? Everyone will know we are desperate for a midfielder to replace him. Not only we are selling for peanuts (because he is a nice guy) but we seem in a hurry to do so.

At least tell him he will go but ONLY after we sign his replacement.

Everyone will ask us for 100M for any CM knowing that we are desperate for one.

FYI, i dont't even think he should go. We should convince him to stay one more year. There is no guarantee even Rice (assuming we can even get him) can do better than Xhaka this season in that advanced role. We might regret this.

I agree letting him go is a massive mistake and we will heavily regret it.
He wants it done early. We signed him in May too, he wants everything sorted early and to say his goodbyes.

What would have made him want to stay was to be offered a big 4/5 year deal, he doesn’t want a 1 or 2 year extension. Xhaka has to be a key part of Mikel’s plans.

We heavily regretted not replacing Vieira/Petit/Gilberto.

This will not be even remotely on the same scale.

It’s bigger. Xhaka leaving Arsenal will be the biggest regret in football history.

I find it so funny that every summer since he’s been here, the whole fan base has been desperate to see him sold and it never happens. Still remember the absolute melt down when we nearly sold him, only to have him extend his contract and the fan base absolutely lost it.

Now the one season basically everyone wants him to stay, he’s ****ing off. Typical arsenal this.

Expecting a big rebuild in midfield with this exit. Even if we were going to phase him out he'd still have been an excellent rotation option, that rarely gets injured.

Everyone knows we'll be looking for midfielders anyway.

Accounting wise it makes sense Id imagine (ignoring probably 1.5m in wages you save) you get the transfer fee in early and can guarantee that 15 million say + a year of Xhakas wages you wont have to spend so you can put that against a transfer which you might allow you move a lot quicker if need be on the transfers we do want.

Everyone who saw the last 9 games of the season knows what we need.

It's allowed to have mode than one good player at the same position...

You can get a Caicedo/Rice, keep Xhaka and have more money for another position. Need a serious squad for CL football midweek.

And we seem keen on doing that while upgrading on Xhaka. Good. Xhaka is not the kind of player we should be relying on for CL nights nor the biggest PL matches. Thankfully it seems somebody at the club understands that. Also worth repeating that all indications are that he is choosing to leave now rather than see out his contract. When this club was winning things regularly, it didn't make the habit of handing out contracts to aging squad level players to where they would be paid more for their decline years. Thankfully it seems somebody at the club understand that now too. This guy has had 1 good season out of 7 and there are people in here acting like we're binning Prime Zidane. For all you know, Xhaka wasn't ok with getting a Caicedo/Rice and that relegating him to a squad level player rather than guaranteed starter. Did that ever occur to you? So what then, we should only sign players who can't displace Xhaka so we can keep him in perpetuity?

Xhaka first season was quite good, whether playing with Coq infront of a back 4 or Ramsey infront of a back 5, he did well in 2017...won the cup and we were a little unlucky to miss out on Top Four.

2018-2021, the club was going through some proper **** times...few players actually had good seasons here so wouldn't put it just down to him how bad we were, though he was quite poor in this period too.

He was obviously very good this season, but thought he was still good last year (just didn't get the goals, but our midfield was very hard to beat when he and Partry were playing) he's not a legend here like some would say, but he's not just got suddenly good recently either.
