Suarez for his 68m release. Even without any other signings and Jenkinson starting at RB it'd put us in pole position and largely ruin Liverpool's team. Knowing our luck he'd get injured though.

Suarez is worth every cent of that 68m. Sign him to a 4 year contract and for those 4 seasons your team has a fantastic chance of winning the league.

We missed our chance last season, 50m would have probably got him then, but as usual we low-balled. 40m gets you Javi Martinez in this market.

When Suarez signed a new contract, a few of the papers said his release clause to English teams would be £100m, whereas it would be £70m for foreign clubs. The new contract suited both parties.

Suarez had a definite release clause, and Liverpool won't lose him to an English team.

 Low-ball? How is offering the RC low-balling.

Besides 40M is a good amount, pretty sure we signed a guy called Özil for that amount and he isn't too bad.

Offering £40m was an insult to Liverpool who sold their previous world class player to Chelsea for £50m (Torres). Özil cost £42.5m and there is no way he can be considered in the same class as Suarez.

Suarez is a match winner, a player who makes those around him play better. I would have preferred that went all out to get him and not have settled for second best in Özil. We might have actually won the PL last season, the FA cup and reached the CL final with him in the team.

I thought it was a bid in excess of 40 million would trigger the release clause. I think you're severely devaluing Özil's importance to our team. It's not his fault he had no one with pace around him or anyone who could finish. He was left largely unprotected in our set up, in a new league, without Ramsey for half the year.

Özil is worth every penny, and if you were to subtract him from our side, what then? Add Suarez, ok. But we had an injury plagued Caz, an overly relied on Rosicky, and an injured/limited Wilshere who would have played that role. Do you think Ramsey would have been as good without Özil? You can argue that we might have won the league, but this sort of "we would have been the best team ever" talk with Suarez is ludicrous. Oh yeah, and by equivocation, remove Suarez from our team for the 6 weeks we lost mesut

Screw all this revisionist history it's all nonsense, heck a few fewer injuries to the side and we could have won the league with what we had. Who predicted we'd lose Theo for pretty much an entire season at the start of the season never mind Özil and Rambo's spells out.

That still doesn't get us a defensive CM, which I think is a priority.

truth_hurts

but Holding’s hair transplant was painless
Colemna/Aurier/Richards
Witsel/Khedira/Schneiderlin
Balotelli

Bonus - Di Maria/Sanchex/Reus/Draxler

You're right, scratch out Balotelli and get Kheidra or Schneiderlin. Maybe sell Arteta as we'd have too many CMs.

Sanchez then plays as our false 9.

Surely Balotelli and Sanchez would qualify as being bargain opportunities to sign special talents akin to Özil, rather than being part of the 'normal' transfer window activity? Same could apply if Khedira is available for around 15-20m?

If so then I see no reason why we shouldn't then push the envelope all the way out and sign as many such players as we can whilst the opportunity presents. IMO they are not only genuine starting quality, but are also of special quality that it would not take them the usual 5+ months to adapt - particularly if we were able to rotate effectively during the winter period.
