Arsène Wenger: Same Old Class

A lot of people knew that. They just wanted an owner who was prepared to spend so much that it could possibly take the incompetence of the manager out of the equation. It's happened before.

Don't think Wenger would have fared much better under Usmanov. We haven't been that financially limited the past few seasons. Rather it has been Wenger's own parsimony and dithering in the transfer market that has left our squad in the state that it is. Wenger has proven over the past decade that he can no longer compete at the very top-level.

There would have been hope that Usmanov might have meddled or even got someone to speak to a few galacticos; just appointed someone to go buy whoever at whatever cost, before saying "Here you go, Arsène, make that work".

A matter of semantics. And it would still have left the club with no manager and no plan. Who would they have gotten to replace him? Who could they possibly have hired at this late date who might have brought stability? What top manager do you know for a fact could have been hired and gotten everything up and running in June? Or do you think a caretaker manager would have been a good idea?

Oh, plus there's the fact that they had already offered him a new contract last autumn and it was on the table. They would have had to pull it, which would have been a sacking even with semantic games.

Well if you're going to take Gazidis at his word. Apparently every manager in the world would be chomping at the bit to manage Arsenal so we could have taken our pick?

We don't know who we could have had to replace him because we didn't even court anyone for the position, because no one at the club has any balls to not hide behind rehashed soundbites that make little to no sense and make clear, brave and necessary decisions.

Always playing it to safe Arsenal

Slightly worried with all the talk about how fans 'need to unite'. As if that's even 1% of the problem at the club at the moment.

Fans are more willing to believe in their team than anyone else; it's the reason this sport exists.

All the words in the world won't change how the fans currently feel, some proper investment in the squad and a good start to the season will.

If you want the fans to unite then give them something they can unite behind.

tbh, Wenger signing or not is pretty irrelevant while we have Kroenke & this pathetic BoD. We wont see any real change in this club until we see change right at the top!

Fans turning on each other and not getting behind the team can have a massive influence on a team and I do think that whole Wenger Out/wenger In saga had a detrimental effect on performances. My hometown club Stuttgart got relegated last year, everyone hated the situation, everyone knew management and board were at fault and the ship was rotten. But what happened? The fans got behind the team, even if there were discussions and ill feelings towards the board, because the fans knew it was the right thing to go and support your team. We got the record for home and away game attendance in the 2. Bundesliga and broke the threshold of averaging 50000 viewers per home game, which took us to 16th place of all clubs, and I think that unified fanbase played a massive part in getting the team to perform and return to 1. Bundesliga after just 1 year.

At least the loan of an Arsenal (ex) player worked this time, also thought bringing back Hleb for the 9/10 season was a good idea

Because its Kroenk and the board who are training the players, choosing starting lineups and sending the players out with no clear instructions. Its them that cant organise a defense

Ah, so by their own incompetence they left themselves with no option but to keep him despite knowing his contract was due to expire. So that means it's fine to keep him, not something they should be criticised for at all...
