The article is rubbish. You can only use £7m of the premier league tv money to increase your wage bill, but any money generated from say Champions league football is free to be used. If we made £30m from being in the champions league this year we can increase our wage bill by £37m because the champions league money is classed as outside revenue.

We received 142.4m for finishing 5th.

I'm under the impression 30.4m of that can be used as disposable income towards wages. The other 112m is purely from TV money which cant be used.

We also get money for winning FA cup etc etc.

30m per season from Puma, other revenue streams as well. We have so much money to spend

What a night of bollock kicking this has been.

Bakayoko off to Chelsea who have also bid for Van Dijk and Alex Sandro. Fabinho off to United again, Mbappe off to Madrid and another report on Alexis leaving.

Just shut the window.

Yup, Wenger and the board clowns always have this dream they will get the best players without paying the fees and the wages and try to sell us some dream every summer. This year it it Mpabbe, last year Higuain, year before Benzema, year before Suarez/higuain. Year before Rooney. And usually this is just a media plot or they have a seriously **** plan in place. Never been so disinterested in a new season following the Arsenal. Even people that would run this club as a business would do a hell of a lot better.

There probably isn't even a list drawn up who are targets are! We probably just wait until the real teams pick what they want and we fead of the scrapes! Typical wenger ducking around on a player who we won't get just to say we nearly signed him!... let's get business done early so we don't approach the first to games of the season and wrote them off like you did last year which cost you a place in the top four!

United fielded 1st XIs in the EFL Cup and Europa League. But finished 6th. Not a good model for us. And we don't need anymore FA cups.

Wenger needs to go for the league this year and put the reserves in every other competition.

You need the players to go for the league and quite frankly we are a millions miles away to even making a serious challenge

Mertesacker got injured and we sent Chambers out on loan with Mustafi coming in.

This time Mertesacker is not injured therefore Rob is 4th and even 5th choice behind Monreal in the list of CB's Wenger will use.

He won't get 24/7 game time which is what he needs, he will go out on loan in my opinion.

What have you been smoking? The kid is now 2nd/3rd choice cb after his displays

Well he isn't is he? He's behind Koscielny, Mustafi, Mertesacker and joint with Gabriel.

He's above mertsacker surely your not that's silly to Believe mertsacker would get in front of him now! Mertsacker is a liability and will always be one! He's had a fantastic career but he's not good enough for Arsenal!

Per could be useful as the middle one in a three. Came back looking solid.

Mertesacker is one of the best in the world at reading the game, is an excellent tackler, pretty decent passer and an aerial bully.
He just can't run which greatly limits his effectiveness in a CB pairing. The middle man in the 3 at the back somewhat covers this weakness.

Granted, the FA Cup final was only one game, but he looked immense against the PL champions.

Forever to be known as The Mertesacker Final. It will go down in history, akin to the night that Willis Reed, the captain of the New York Knicks, unexpectedly walked out onto the court during warmups after coming back from injury to inspire the Knicks to a Game 7 win over the Los Angeles Lakers for the 1970 NBA title. One for the ages.
