Do you think Emery will get the club back on an upwards trajectory?

We’ve fallen so far behind and it’s nothing to do with Wenger. A 6-8 club now.

That’s bollocks quite frankly. The only thing that stopped us being top 4 this season was having away form as bad as the teams fighting for survival. Last season we got 45 points at home and 30 away from home. This season we got 47 points at home and 13 away from home. If we had the same away form as last season we’d be third. This is something that can be fixed with a better manager and better tactics.

So no, we haven’t fallen so far behind and it has everything to do with Wenger.

If top 6 is the expectation the club would have for Arteta, he's clearly not the man for the job.

It's a long-term appointment tho, the first season will be used to get his ideas across and mold the team into his liking.

Didn't Sp**s finish 6th in Pochettinho's first season? To then go on and finish in the top 4 spots for what looks set to be 3 years in a row.

Don't get the 6-8 stuff and top four miracle talk.
There isn't too much of a quality gap barring City.

The biggest difference will be the change itself and the mental switch.
Of course this effect also depends on the incoming manager but will have a huge effect for anyone.

Which squad except City's is actually loaded with worldclass players ?
None.
If the next manager/mislintat finds the right players to finally solve our DM and CB issues our squad is topclass. We have the best striker pairing in the league, the only thing that would really take us to another level up front would be a world class winger that keeps the width and has loads of pace and quality on 1vs1 situations.

Everything else is just up to the team and the new coach. We start from 0 as any other team and if it clicks and we adapt a real system anything is possible.

We're much better than that Tottenham side. Honestly, top 6 is the bare minimum this club should be managing. We should expect whoever we get to be able to fight with the other big teams immediately, considering some of the quality we have. It's really not as much to ask for as you think. Conte came in and won the league after Chelsea's disaster season, with minimal reinforcements. Considering that, it should be entirely realistic to expect the next manager to get back into the top 4. If Arteta can't do that, we shouldn't get him. Every year outside the top 4 is another loss of money and hit to the club's image.

It's possible Allegri is using the Arsenal interest to get more transfer funds from Juve and perhaps a better contract for himself. #WelcomeArteta

Expecting top 4 straight away is very optimistic imo, you don't go out of top 4 for a couple of seasons and then come straight back into when the competition is so fierce. And let's not forget about the rebuilding job we arguably need a new keeper and almost a completely new defence, also if Ramsey's leaves midfield additions are a must too and that's all before we consider the fact we've got wingers.

We have to allow at least one season to get ideas across and allowing the new manager to build the team he wants otherwise we could end up in a merry-go-round of managers.

As for Chelsea and Conte, he took over a side which had the best striker in the league, the best player in the league a year before, just signed Kante a guy who was hugely influential in Leicester winning the league and on top of that a team who'd won the league themselves a year prior to him taking over. It's not comparable at all.

Per the conversation of the past couple of pages, no matter who the new manager is the expectation should be to get back into the top four. Some managers on the list will make that more likely than others. But there are several excellent candidates, so it's not a matter of needing any particular one. The vital thing is to quickly fix the problems in defense by bringing in better players in those positions. As I've said, Arsenal has a wealth of attacking talent. More than the club has seen in many years. The key attacking players are in their primes. Arsenal can't afford to fool around and waste those players' talents. If they're not planning to get back into the top four (and hopefully challenge for the title) immediately, then they might as well sell them all and start from the ground up.

People take top 4 for granted, Wenger worked miracles to keep us in there between 2006 and 2015, now the competition is greater for ever as there's no longer a big 4 but a big 6 and two of them have to miss out every season.

Try not to hold the next manager up to the standards that Wenger set, it's impossible for them to replicate that straight away.

Strange he's not getting a look in for us; has won the league and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with Manchester City, has done well with lesser budgets in Spain... loves attacking football in an adapted 4-4-2 which would suit Aubameyang and Lacazette...
