Need more information on this. What was he told/promised? Why does he suddenly do this now? Not like him at all and I think there's a lot more going on that we don't know.

****ing ****ty situation though. Expect a lot better from Kos all things being equal, but they may not be.

Yeah just see how this plays out . Either way it's really not that bad being stuck at Arsenal .

Just a ****ing awkward situation with our Club preparing statements against our supposed captain, rather than calling him injured or whatever.

RVP-esque letter incoming from Laurent. Say what you want, but Koscienly throwing a fit to get his move shows he understands the traditions of wearing the armband. Robin is somewhere in smiling on.

On the plus side, him leaving moves up Xhaka and/or Özil to be out the door next year so there is that to look forward to aswell. The Arsenal captaincy is undefeated in moving people out.

So a club like Arsenal can not manage that situation? A simple answer, he is injured and stayed behind. That happens regularly with other clubs and is managed in house.
He's the one who made the call not to turn up, not Arsenal. He escalated it publicly by making it known he's not going, not Arsenal. He's the one who didn't want to manage it in house, not Arsenal.

Kos made it known publicly he wouldn’t go on tour? Whole different complexion. Do you have a link for that?

It's almost farcical.

Vieira was a good captain - except for the fact he flirted with Real Madrid every summer. We gave the captaincy to Henry, then Fabregas, then RVP and then Vermaelen to try to keep them at the club. Failed spectacularly.

It was then handed to the injured duo of Mertesacker and Arteta. This resulted in our club captain not having played a Premier League match for 3 years.

Now we have Koscielny who has thrown his toys out of the pram because we won't let him leave for nothing.

It's tainted. Just burn the armband immediately.

On the one hand it could be useful in that it forces us, you’d think, to go into the market instead of relying on someone who’s at the end of his career, however talented he may be on his day.

On the other hand it’s a sour end to a fantastic career at Arsenal from one of my favourite players and it just creates a bad mood around the place. Obviously it’s a shame.

Confirmed it outside the club. Why the **** would he turn up and be visible on the day players are leaving on tour and when media are more than likely to be present? Such a **** of a thing to do: to his teammates who are trying to have a good preseason; to the club which has been so loyal even through long-term injury, and to the fans. At the end of the day he made the call not to go, not Arsenal.

Dude, you said that Kos escalated it publicly.... I don't see that in what you posted. This Goal link (Goal...FFS) just regurgitates the AFC press release and making assumptions.
Any reliable link that can corroborate your statement?

Orny do?

Edit: also don't understand how you don't see it what the first article says, when it states:

"...by turning up at London Colney on Thursday morning and announcing he would spend the day training and that he would not be joining the rest of the squad on the coach to the airport."

Pretty clear. Person arrives at location at a certain time to say something to people present, while people were getting on a form of transport to go to another location.

Idiotic move from the so called captain/leader. Surely after serving the club well, he could have easily find a way to get his move and the club could have easily resolved this quietly without causing disharmony. Someone dropped the ball here. This is the last thing our fragile players need :( We need a new captain anyways.

Going to sound like a right skank here but if Koscielny's value is 500k-2mil its still 500k-2mil to the club, the club can't just be giving away assets for free when they have a value.

500k pays for something, be it wages for staff, electricity bill, improvements somewhere its all money.

He has a contract, he is still required as part of the squad (unfortunately), Bordeaux or who ever need to pay for him.

The club would have assessed his value, assessed his remaining wages they will pay him and come to a conclusion that he is still of value and worth paying the wages for whatever game time/cover he will provide.

He is/was also a captain which the club may have wanted to keep around.

Seems a liability now for the club, but I take your point.

I have to say - Arsenal's issuing that statement is the most un-Arsenal thing I've seen us do in a long time. I don't hate it but it's a weird move by the so-called "Classenal" who'd rather fake an injury publicly than air out their sh!tty boxers on the lawn for the neighbourhood to see.

Having said that, Koscielny trying to force a move is out of order for a captain. At most, he should be stripped immediately.

He's been a good servant but if he's pushing for a free transfer, then he's out of order. He should have told the club he wanted out as soon as the season ended not at the start of our tour. The back line needs ripping up and if this forces our hand, then so be it. A one year deal in the PL vs a chance to return home on a three year deal. Not much of a contest there and testament to how far we have fallen when this type of player wants out.
