The Wish List

I read that City are scouting Houssem Aouar pretty rigorously. It seems to me that Aouar to City is, unfortunately, almost a foregone conclusion. Pep heaped praised on him and Aouar declared his interest in playing for them. Might have to remove him from my wish list as a realistic target, sucks because he'd be perfect for us. Makes sense for City and Aouar though, he fits their style like a glove.

Then we should get Foden. He isn’t going to want to ride the bench much longer as he gets into his 20s. We need to start finding or moving on the Havertz and Aouar types a year earlier, even if they aren’t quite ready. Because once they are ready it’s too late and the price is too high.

Camavinga, Soumare, Zakaria, Tonali, Berge, Foden, Szoboszlai, Ihattaren, for 2 or 3 midfield spots, or people like them who are probably a year or two from being ready is the profile of player we need to go for. Youngsters with loads of potential who cost $20m-$60m.

We were rumoured to be interested in Aouar the previous summer. Perhaps should've made the big money splash on him instead of Pépé. We did have Emery in charge then though, Pépé made more sense for an Emery team than it does for an Arteta team relative to Aouar.

Agree with that sentiment. As for the list, I think Camavinga and Tonali are as unrealistic as Aouar at this point. Real is heavily scouting Camavinga and Tonali probably moves to Juventus, Inter or Milan. Szoboszlai has long been a mainstay of my wish list. Soumaré and Zakaria have been in there as well - definitely think those three are attainable targets. Berge just joined Sheffield, doubt City lets Foden go, and as for Ihattaren, I think PSV will keep him for a while to boost up his value before cashing in.

yeah I do think they are out of our range. City might not have a choice if they keep signing players ahead of him. They like the shiny toy and don’t seem to have any of their own come through. He won’t sit forever when he could eventually start for almost every team.

Aouar is thé marquee signing on my wishlist as a replacement of Özil, much more suited for a 4-3-3. City makes a lot more sense for him though. Van de Beek could be an alternative, but would be less high profile and would require a more creative CM next to him to flourish.

If Norwich go down how about Buendia? Seems like he fills a similar profile to Van de Beek and Aouar and would be a bit cheaper.

From the potentially relegated teams:

15. Brighton - Dunk, Maupay
16. Bournemouth - Ake
17. Aston Villa - Mings, Grealish
18. West Ham - Rice
19. Watford - Sarr, Doucoure
20. Norwich - Cantwell, Buendia

Adam Idah from Norwich as well, that kid looks good from what I have seen and he's an Irish lad lol

Out:
Musti £7m
Mkhy £7m
Elneny £6m
Aubameyang £35m
Lacazette £30m
Sokratis £5m
Holding £15m

Total: £105m

In:
Ake £50m
Soumare £35m
Grealish £55m
Dembele (Lyon) £50m

Total: £190m

Net spend: £85m but a lot of money saved in wages, those incomings won’t be on nearly as much as the likes of Auba, Laca, Mkhy. Even musti and elneny are on quite silly money.

Obviously wish list stuff

Leno
Bellerin Saliba Ake Tierney
Torreira Xhaka/Soumare
Pepe Grealish Martinelli
Dembele

Martinez
Cedric Luiz Mari Kolasinac
Guendouzi Soumare
Nelson Willock Saka
Martinelli/Nketiah

Martinelli can rotate with Saka and Nelson at LW, as well as fill in as a striker for Dembele.

Would love this, although I'd rather go for a 4-3-3 and maybe sell Guendouzi to fund a box-to-box midfielder (I'd go for Van de Beek as an addition to your wishlist, dream would be Ruiz or Aouar but that seems unlikely).

Sane would also be an incredible purchase, but aside from not standing a chance when Bayern comes knocking, it would be risky for us to pick up another ACL patient. Our track record is not exactly great. Would love him more than anyone if he'd stay fit though. Would completely transform our attack.

I saw @Impact post what we needed in another thread and I couldn't agree more with these:
  • Left-footed centre-back to partner Saliba long-term
  • Specialist left-back to compete with/deputise for Tierney
  • Mobile and physical imposing starting holding midfielder
  • Dynamic third midfielder/#10 to replace Özil
  • Natural starting left-sided winger
My picks would be as follows:

Ake
Bernat
Brozovic
Ziyech
Grealish

Not left footed but comfortable playing anywhere across the back four and defensive midfield, Boubacar Kamara from Marseille seems like the real deal. He's only 20 though. Will move to a top club soon.
