Looked to me like Nketiah wasn't being reckless but wanted to make a pretty standard challenge on the ball.
It's clear he's sliding as soon as his landing foot hits the ground and no chance he can stop so ends up stamping hard into Justin and luckily no injury.

A fair enough red, very unfortunate, but I don't understand the use of VAR here with the on-pitch ref. He comes out to check and confirm whatever the VAR Ref has advised. Yet he sees one angle, for 3 seconds max and then he confirms.

Why does this always happen to us. Guaranteed that happens anywhere else and it's barely a free kick. Intent wasn't there and he doesn't even go 100% in esp when realises he isn't going to get there

Yea, there was contact. Wasn't a full on stomp, but his studs graze the leg for sure. Just unlucky, if he'd got there a second prior, he'd have been clear in on goal.
