This sounds too good to be true.
If he loved the club like he claims he’d go. He’s not playing for us again & knows it, go do what you get paid to do Mesut & all is forgiven

What’s this love the club BS? He’s no Tony Adams or Ian Wright.

Yes desperately need his 3 assists a season. guy won't see the pitch if he staying here Arteta have no time for passengers.
It doesn’t look like we‘re going to sign a creative midfielder on top of Willian and Ceballos is gone. There‘s definitely a place for Mesut‘s creativity, he‘ll see plenty of game time, especially in games where we can‘t park the bus.

It’s best for everyone if he goes, but we have a problem that is now becoming common in football, players will sit on their deals to become free agents.

Will not surprise me if he retires after the season. Can’t see him move unless there is a big offer from MLS and he has enough projects on the side to live happily ever after

Also, financially its more valuable for him to become a free agent. It makes no sense to leave now.

I find it hard to believe Edu and Vinai will be asking for anything if Özil wants to leave, so he's literally a free agent already. We should count ourselves lucky we don't have to pay someone to take Özil.

Not really, he may not see the same numbers next year. If the numbers are true, he probably makes more than he does now and is a multi year deal at his age.

After the past year and if that trend continues, he'll be lucky to get a decent contract next summer anywhere in Europe. Doubt any team will bother offering anywhere over 5m a year in wages. Only Italian teams will deal with players his age on multi year contracts and none of them will offer anything close to 100k/week. His reputation is in tatters in England and I don't know how it holds up in Germany after the way he retired post world cup.

If he wants another pay day next summer, he'll have to leave Europe one way or another, middle east/ MLS or China. The big factor in this is his wife and them having a kid recently.

The club has been wasting money for years, especially recently, you can’t just highlight one thing. I mean sell Torreira ffs, that’s 25M. We could’ve sold Guendouzi had we not vilified him in public. Did we need Mari etc.
We did need Mari for depth. He's a left footed CB that is going to be important for Arteta going forward.

The window is not over, we can still sell Torreira. I'm sure the club has received offers and are negotiating behind the scene..

Nobody is denying that the club hasn't made mistakes in the past. One of those mistakes was giving Mesut a gargantuan contract. But credit to the club for trying to rectify it now

Nobody would leave London and Europe to go Qatar etc, unless it’s a massive massive pay rise, which it isn’t really for him, despite any tax relief.

You’re leaving ALL your family and friends. His wife will be sitting in an apartment all day on her own while he’s doing his football thing.
Why not? Qatar is a modern country by all accounts. Some top footballers like Xavi in the tail end of their careers have gone there and not for massive wage increase either.
