Just saw in the Athletic that Liverpool paid only 5 million upfront for Thiago. The Jota deal - no expenses this year as giving Wolves their youngster broke even that 10% upfront.

So 5 million spent this year on two top players.

What do you gain by selling Dele Alli and buying Lingard?

It’s very Mourinho.

Lingard is an Attacking Midfielder who works very hard for the team with running, pressing, marking and positioning but lacks quality and output.

Dele is more talented and capable of better output (stagnated however) but is a bit more lazy and selfish in the team.

Mourinho had Oscar at Chelsea who was similar but a lot better.

Will be interesting to see if he goes. Has 1 year in contract, but earns €265k-£280k per week.

Has to take a huge paycut or no transfer fee. Hasn't exactly delivered for so huge wage.
