It does, but then stopping shots is a big part of his job. He can win us points with that ability. We can’t pretend we’re out of the woods with his slightly suspect movement on crosses though. All in all it’s been a very good return for him so far. He will be scrutinised more than what’s fair. This always feels like a backhanded compliment with GK's.
Really? Where, social media or something?Hope the haters just get behind this guy now, the abuse has been unbelievably classless from some of our fans.
Emi Martinez could never.Leno is starting for Germany against Turkey.
The problem is, some of the fan base are comparing him to an idealized version of Martinez that never existed. For balance, here's the equivalent game at Liverpool last season. Compare their shot stopping.
Yeah which is what I meant by the statement.Tbf I think that version of Martinez did exist. But only for about 8 games or so, where he was not only in the form of his life but you could even make a case no GK was performing better than him anywhere. The problem with that is it is such a small sample. No chance Martinez could have kept that up for a whole season. Yet that run of games of his are the benchmark Leno is judged in every single game.
People really look at anything to blame him he made a save that what important where it end up next that not really his job where was Gabriel Luiz xhaka Ceballos Tierney you have to ask those questions to why they let sterling have free shot after that.
No defender expects GK to just punch the ball straight back into the danger zone. It was very bad from Leno.
What else could he have done though?
Considering the distance Foden was to the goal and the speed of the shot, all he could realistically do was save it and hope.
The one Mane scored against us a few weeks ago was an error from Leno, this one wasn't.
