Does this mean Arsenal social media won’t highlight Özil anymore? Cringe stuff coming up. All the best #M10

Fully support his raising awareness of China’s atrocities but I don’t support him in general. Also support the clubs stance on him while being against their stance on China. There’s isn’t enough of a grey area to conflate the two.

Özil and Arteta in a **** measuring contest. Both just grabbing their crotch and mocking the other. Neither is actually willing to pull their **** out and getting the measurement done with and getting the whole ordeal over with.

I think it’s not a simple thing. Something has happened - so Arsenal say we freeze him out, and Özil in return says “ill stay here and collect my money”. He’s not going to back down.

Or once the financial impact of covid lockdown was felt, Arsenal decided that the extra commercial revenue from China cannot be ignored and decided to axe him so that the financial losses could be somewhat compensated for.
This is probably it.

He played 10 games post China-gate so I doubt that.

Just think the bonuses he would have been entitled to on top of his 350k base salary would have not been worth whatever he produced.

What bothers me is the lying. Clean slate and competitive squad stuff, I don't buy it. Just leads to mass speculation.

It's a simple thing: Wenger himself already explained what that happened to Özil:

The way football is going at the moment it's quick counter-pressing, quick transitions and everybody plays the same. It's kicked out players like Özil.

There's no room in modern football for a player like Özil. The question we should be asking never was why we froze out Özil, it's why Wenger and Emery left a mess like Özil for Arteta to clean up. Why it took so long for the club to admit we need to move away from using players like Özil.

What did you want Wenger or Emery to do? Once he’s got that contract he’s not leaving. Just like Auba, Willian, Mari or Cedric now. If they don’t pay off, they aren’t leaving either, and I’m sure Willian, Mari or Cedric are not paying off.

Emery froze out Özil for a few months as well. I've seen a lot of people forget about that, as if this whole thing started after lockdown. Özil's position had been weakening since Emery's 1st season.

His exclusion doesn't come as a surprise. If it's money related, I think we've saved £8.6m and paid out £8m as a loyalty bonus . We're set yo save about the same amount between now and June. If it's related to China, then Özil is entitled to his opinion but has no business putting the club in any kind of awkward position when he voices it. I'd love our club to be able to make a stand on all things wrong, but we can't for financial and practical reasons. If it's his refusal to take a pay cut, I wonder if the players are secretly mad at him and hiding behind Arteta. If Arteta feels undermined in some way, then he's clever to pick on easy targets like Özil, Guendouzi and Sokratis. Or he's extremely precious.
Either way, Özil hasn't played for 10 months. He's way off as far as match fitness goes and mot a natural athlete like Alexis who likely can get fit during a half of football. He says he's determined to mot let his last season here end like this but he doesn't have a choice. I'm mot sorry yo see the club getting tough but I prefer a bit of dignity and no washing of dirty laundry in public. I wonder how the club would respond if at Christmas he offered to forgo his bonus....

Wenger's admitted that replacing Özil would be expensive (about £100m I think) but the extension is on Gazidis. Wenger didn't want to resign him at the price Gazidis negotiated. He would have gambled without him.

Do people really believe Arteta is behind this?:rofl:
I genuinely believe he does not have much of a say.

I wouldn't go out of my way to spud some d*ckhead manager, would you?

I wouldn't look at the ground when greeting someone unless I am ashamed of something, would you?

Course its not Arteta.

Seems more and more likely this has to do with his comments on China and the Uyhgurs. Of course, people will point out that Özil is friends with Erdogan.

But people's heart can be in the right place and still have bad or even terrible politics. It's no excuse, but I'd say that's true for most people, otherwise we'd have socialism by now. I won't be saying anything further on this.

Unlikely since he played for months after he even made those comments, and there wasn't any indication that anyone at the club was particularly pissed at him for it.

He was more riled up at the club for choosing to remain neutral than they were at him.
