It's "easier" in a way to play against bigger teams, players can get behind a more workman like attitude in those matches, Arteta got that in the FA Cup too.

The 18/19 team was better than this team, certainly from an attacking point of view imo...plus Emery is a good and experienced coach, even with his flaws.

But that 22 game unbeaten run was lucky really, though we did play well in some matches during it...our 49 game unbeaten run, or even our start to the 2007/2008 season (were we didn't lose a league game until December) those were proper runs of form...we were just smashing teams to bits back then.

Maybe I underrate the squad, maybe you overrate the squad...all I can go by is how I feel and what I see, and I have seen us not playing consistently well for years now, under 3 different managers, 1 of the them being one of the greatest attacking managers of all time...maybe it's time to try to focus on the players more, when trying to solve this issue, as opposed to keep sacking the coach?

So what is the plan? Just lose games until each transfer window and hope that every player Arteta buys is a success. Cause he has an eye for talent like Willian, Soares and Mari? Especially given we arent cash rich.

Arteta needs to get more from this squad. There has to be 10-15% even more to squeeze out.

We know he wont get much to spend in january. Next summer say 2 decent players. But that's if we get CL your not attracting decent players without it. Unless your paying 250k a week and they are the first players that down tools when things go wrong.

Part of me wishes we never won the FA Cup so we didn't have to do Europa again.

Why, Europa is better than no Europe...plus there is nothing like winning trophies.

Arteta is safe until the end of the season at least. At that point a decision will need to be taken depending on what progress has been like. At the moment it looks dodgy but there's plenty of time to turn things round and, for a change, we have players who are better than our position in the table shows. So it shouldn't be that complicated to improve our play and our position.

We are only 5 points away from Champions League (after only 9 games ffs) we are unlikely to get it but you never know, lets see what happens.

Plus we still have the Europa and even the cups to play for.

Exactly already 5 points of the pace after 9 games. By the end of the season we will be 20 points of it.

I would be all on for Arteta if he was either playing decent football with an idea and not getting the rub of the green or playing boring football and winning. Hes doing neither. Theres 0 progress in the league.

Winning the Europa league? Wise up cant beat Villa at home. Nor Leeds nor Leciester.

As for any other cup league cup or FA cup not interested in them. Would happily never win another FA cup in the next 20 years if it meant we won a league in that time. Fa cups are nice but have papered over too many cracks.

  • We haven't conceded any goals from set pieces in the league this season. Only team to do so.
  • Our defence has improved a lot.
  • We are way more resilient as a team, we don't capitulate every game like we used to under the smallest amount of pressure.
  • We look better against bigger sides.
  • Seems to be excellent tactically.
Arteta steadied a ship that was leaking goals for years and years under previous regimes. Is it pretty? Nope. But I'd rather have a solid base to work from than a leaky one. He now has that base. You can't expect everything at once.

Anyone saying Arteta needs to go right now, think for a minute. Give him the winter window, allow Martinelli to come back in. Give Arteta this season to prove himself.

If we completely bomb out for whatever reason then even I will be questioning things. But its naive and narrow minded to expect everything you want at once, we'll have bumps and go through difficulties. Roll with it.
I agree with most of what say but being excellent tactically doesn`t just apply to the defensive side of the game. We have without question improved a lot defensively and Arteta desveres a lot of credit for that but going forward we look utterly hopeless.

I think I'd prefer no Europe over Europa, unless we win it it's a terrible competition to be in and we lose when we come up again a good team anyway (apart from Olympiakos).

The FA Cups wins are nice but don't really feel like that much of an achievement if you're terrible in the league and Europe, it's only 5 games a season doesn't really tell us anything.

Well then why didnt the manager sign 2 attacking players instead of a defender and a midfielder? Why did he sign a 32 year old who actually isnt really creative. Why did he sign 2 defenders in Mari and Soares. And why is he ignoring Özil? So many bad moves but I suppose that's the players fault too.

I've literally just said why? Because the clear problem for many years has been the defensive side of things? Can we also remember in the one big away game that Partey has played in so far he absolutely dominated. Our main midfield signing hasn't even been in the side for a sustained run of games yet ffs.

For the hundredth time Mari and Soares are BACKUP. Mari would be playing in Europa at LCB if he were fit, Cedric plays as the backup right back and is excellent technically. No point pointing the finger at two players which cost £4M in total.

Özil? The blokes got 8 months left here, no point even talking about him. And nobody even knows whos overall decision it actually is to not play Mesut. So you can't blame that on the manager.

I'm done talking to you about it, just wait and see girlfriend.

Teams too crap though or have you forgotten

This season is a write off for me anyways - another transitional season where we try stuff, drop points and find our best formation and personnel etc.

Which would be why sacking Arteta would be a waste as you'd hope he would have worked it out and signs who he needs next summer.

Pretty sure I am tuning out until further notice anyways as week by week this guy gives me less reasons to watch, I already know how Wolves is gonna go and etc.

We're 10 months in and even though we showed progress on the defensive side of the game we seem to be a lot worse in the attacking department than under Emery.

We wanted stability but at the moment we're only getting dreadful football with zero creativity and spark. If Arteta really thinks it's down to the players not the system he's even more gullible than I thought, he needs to change how we approach these games otherwise he'll lose the dressing room. The players already revolted once and there's no guarantee they won't do it again.

I've been saying this from day 1 but everyone was getting too gassed over Arteta. For what reason? I don't get it, it's all just hype.
Compare being realistic as a Liverpool/City fan to being realistic as an Arsenal fan. For them a realistic season is a top 2 finish, with a CL quarter/semi final.

For us being realistic is going trophy-less and finishing 6-8th. The realistic option is depressing as hell. I was really hoping we had gotten lucky and stumbled into the next great manager but it was unrealistic. Even Lampard and Ole have had previous experience as managers.

Sigh.:(

Also it's not too early for this thread, it's gonna get worse throughout the season. I can imagine this being our worst finish in my Arsenal watching life.

Arteta is in over his head, the players are poor and don't have a manager that can get the best out of them and no fans to put the pressure on. It's all looking bleak tbh, feels like Attack on Titan.

I don't know what to really tell you then mate, you are going to just be angry all the time if that's the case.

It isn't the 1990s or 2000s anymore, we don't have the players to compete at the top...it's 2020, Arsenal have an average squad, rookie manager (who I would like to see develop with us) and a bad owner...plus more than handful of better, richer teams in the league...winning the title is impossible and Champions league qualification is very unlikely, regardless of who manages us.

Either you find joy in the smaller things we do, or take less of an interest in Arsenal maybe...cause I very much doubt we will ever reach the heights you want us to again.

seem with this team nothing gets right if we score goals we'll be banter at the back if we solid at the back we become so s**t going forward Arteta will need to get the mix right and give players more freedom going forward maybe commit more players when attacking rather than attacking with 4 let one of central midfielders and both fullbacks go forward even tho that's mean we'll be so prone on counter but there is really no other solutions because we don't have players that create something from nothing.

Tbf I said that Arteta wouldn't do better than Arsène or Emery with this same squad, if we had an overhaul and bought in better players then I'd have more faith. All we did was fill our squad with Chelsea retirees and guys like Cedric/Mari and spent big on guys like Pepe who didn't work out. It's not an easy job to take especially for your first job.

When you actually think of it, it's insane to expect Arteta to get us back in the CL.

Smaller things we do? Like get a draw against Leeds. You cant just start taking joy with smaller things.

It's like saying to a man who used to eat fillet steak every night taking joy in a chicken nugget.

Or a man used to high rolling in the casino taking the same joy staking a dollar on red.

Once you've tasted the high life you want more.

And while a realistic fan who this year expected us to be close enough to 4th but probably end up 5th or 6th I wasnt asking much. I'm asking us to come top 4 not this season but next. I'm just asking to see improvement. Even slow improvement but something to give me a reason to be positive. How can we be positive when we are 11th after basically a quarter of the season? What is going to magically change between now and the next 4-5 games? Then we really are in **** street floating around 13th and 14th while the Chelsea's Sp**s United are occupying the top 6.

If the unthinkable happened and Sp uds won the league, I think there would have to be some hard rethinking.

A Sp**s team that has Aurier playing RB, Dier centre back, Hojberg who fans would have turned their nose up if we signed and a half broken Gareth Bale. Yes they have some excellent players. But Aubameyang 3 months ago was an excellent player. Now he looks lost. Mourinho is releasing the shackles of Son and Kane. Arteta has 2 cannon balls tied to Aubas boots.
