We've paid him this season so far anyway, if we are that keen on getting him out the club you wouldn't think we'd be bothered paying the full wage for 6 months.

Which is why I said a bit ago that any "fee" we receive is probably to give to Özil to pay off any loyalty bonuses or part of his salary that is agreed upon that we still owe him. Financially, it will work out as if we're releasing him on a free. Only intended to free up wages.

I don't get it. Wouldn't it be better to pay only part of his salary than block the move and pay it full? If saving a few months on Gunnersaurus' pay is significant enough to make him redundant, surely being able to write off part of Özil's half year salary means more savings, no?

Maybe they're just trying to get rid of the full cost first before agreeing to pay part of it. Wouldn't you do the same? I mean, it might end up backfiring but I'd at least try. Maybe Fener will see some sort of benefit in terms of shirt sales to still take him despite the wages for 6 months.
