Personally i think the majority of the teams in the premier league would prefer to play against Nasri than Diaby. As mentioned before Diaby has more stature/presence; he can't be bullied on the pitch. One moment which stood out for me in the game was seeing him sloping down the right wing with rooney trying his hardest to catch him up... but was always just too far behind. You won't get that with Nasri or Rosicky.

When teams play against Arsenal, they know we attack centrally, so they congest the middle of the park. Diaby's dribbling ability allows us to find ways through tight situations. Yes his decision making is sometimes wrong or he dwells on the ball too long, but his control in confined areas can be critical in tight matches.

I'd go as far as saying Cesc, Diaby and Song would be our most complete midfield trio because of the differing elements they all possess.

I think that's true. But I also think that most of the Premier League will get a huge shock when Nasri starts to properly fulfill his potential. He's going to be an awesome player imo.

Yes definately Double You. Van Der Vaart is quality but it would be more of the same if we were to sign him, Diaby offers something very different.

Why is this thread still going? There was no chance of signing him in the first place, 6 pages of nonsense.

Please lock it.

It's been an annoying transfer from the start as I knew it would not happen

Time to lock it.

would love to see rafa in an arsenal shirt. been a big fan for a good while now and was dissapointed we didnt look at him before he joined madrid. if the reported 6-7 million figure being banded around is true then its a steal.

As for what his lawyer has said about him staying, the same thing was said about robben and snieder before they both moved to bayern and inter respectively, so i wouldnt rule out a move before 5pm tomorrow evening.

Van der Vaart

old thread is locked

RAFAEL VAN DER VAART has emerged as a January target for Arsenal.

The Real Madrid midfielder is one of a group of star names who have been deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu.

And his versatility may suit Arsène Wenger in the second half of the season, as long-term doubts persist over Tomas Rosicky and Theo Walcott.

Van der Vaart, 26, was playing for Real in recent weeks but returned to the bench as soon as Brazilian superstar Kaka returned from injury.

His high wages prevented him leaving last summer but he is believed to be willing to take a pay cut in an effort to play first-team football.

The Dutchman needs a strong finish to the season if he is to guarantee his place in Holland's World Cup squad in South Africa next summer.

Arsenal are thought to have made tentative enquiries in recent weeks about the former Ajax and Hamburg playmaker and the Spanish club are studying other offers.

Van der Vaart said: "If an opportunity emerges I would look at it because I need games.

"For the moment nobody has told me I am leaving. I am now back on the bench but I will again have a chance to show my quality."

Van der Vaart moved to the Bundesliga from Ajax in 2005 but was on the move again within three years when Real paid £12million for him. His contract expires in 2013.

He fell out with former Tottenham boss Juande Ramos at the end of last term and new coach Manuel Pallegrini admitted in pre-season that he would listen to offers.

Re: Van der Vaart

we've had how long to sign him?

If wenger didn't like him years ago, I doubt he's going to change his mind.

Re: Van der Vaart

We're linked with him in every window, lazy journalism for me. Anyway, offers more of the same, not really what we need.
