...if only Hleb stayed here, was perfect for Wengerball...no idea how he dug out that pass for the equaliser.

Also Souster98 says he will be posting a lot of stuff from 07-08 these next few weeks, might be a good time to compare the two "nearly" Emirates seasons now that the dust has settled on last season.

Through the eye of a needle that pass 🤩 quality goal. I remember watching it live and we were making Liverpool look quite average despite them taking the lead in the first half from a Gerrard freekick.

Hleb was unreal in that particular game and even in the CL game against them too.

So many great passers on that team

Every Arsenal team played like this though, even the guys who were finishing 8th have clips like this. Bit of a self indulgent style of player if we’re being honest.

I don't think there's a comparison to be made. Throw anything at me you want, just watching them it's clear 07/08 was better. Just unbelievable football at times. Aesthetically it might be the best of Wenger's reign during that season.
The thing is how good Hleb was that season. Probably the best wide playmaker in Europe. Someone like Grealish couldn’t hold a candle to him.

Makes it even more frustrating how he wasted his career away after moving away from us.

Ive said it before, if Hleb was about now Pep would have City bidding crazy amounts to sign him.

Why is it clear? Sounds like nostalgia bias, everyone looks good in highlight clips.

His first season at Barca was under Pep when he was at his peak and he barely got a look in. Hleb is one of those players who was made to look good by Wenger and someone like Pep wouldn’t have time to indulge him. Got exposed in his post Arsenal career without Wenger to guide him and he deserved it.

I swear some of you must be crazy, Hleb lead literally at Barca under Pep and was nowhere near on the level needed.

Even the same with someone like Fabregas, he was the greatest to us but not really good enough for Barca. That 07/08 team is so overrated on here.

Technically he played under Pep

I meant now, he wouldn't be competing with Henry, Iniesta and Messi for his place in the team. And in general in world football, Hleb would be one of the best in his position in the current era whereas back then there was a lot more competition in that regard.

You see someone like Grealish starting and there's no way you don't take prime Hleb over him.

You’re making it out as if it was something quite easy to do to break into the 08/09 Barcelona team 😭 I wouldn’t class it as their greatest but let’s not forgot Messi, Henry and Eto’o scored 100 goals between them in that season then you had Xavi, Iniesta and Yaya Toure in the midfield.

It was a very poor decision by him to leave us at that time. I remember Arsène Wenger even said the same thing:

“I would say at the time when he left for Barcelona, they were the best team in the world by a distance,” he said. “You can understand that he was tempted to do it.

“It was not the right decision for him because he didn’t have the career after and I think it had a negative impact on his career.”

“He was a great, great player but he played on the same side as Lionel Messi. That is nearly an impossible task for every player in the world.”

Then how come he ended up at Birmingham and had a dogsh*t career after Arsenal? Because he wasn’t that good, Arsène made him look better than he is.

You’re acting like Hleb was a complete b*m before he moved to Arsenal. Of course he upped his level playing around better quality but he wasn’t a scrub at Stuttgart.

Regarding the Birmingham move, he went there at 30 just like Coutinho signing for Villa at the same age. There are many similar examples of transfers that haven’t worked out in the past 15 years or so and that player going to ****. It happens.

I’ve got 22/23 ahead of 07/08. Just.

More balanced team for me, we had lots of bark but not enough bite in 07/08. Needed more dawg. And as you’d expect given the levels of spend but putting that to one side…

Aesthetically they were clear ofc, Wenger teams just hit different, but if the question is which team is “better” then last season.

I think people have forgotten just how incredibly frustrating it was to watch the 07/08 team carve opposition open at will and not score. That pool video is a great example fs, how did we not win that game???

Come on man they weren’t winning anything playing like that, just trying to look pretty.

Every Arsenal team has played like this even David Luiz and co, it really doesn’t impress me that much.
I mean I guess so? It's true they didn't have the greatest success but I don't think it was that style of play that stopped us from winning. And players playing like that is what we pay/click through pop ups on illegal streams to see.

07/08 was clearly better and A LOT less money spent. If there was VAR, we would have made it to the semi finals of the Champions League. Top teams feared playing against us.

I mean the poll result paints a different picture. Don’t know where you’re getting “clearly” from…

And money has nothing to do with this, although I did mention it as an aside in my post.

Settle down.
