Rami had a horrible patch end of last season. Decent defender, great strength and near unbeatable in the air, good game reading but too static, similar to Mertesacker. I remember when Pedro went past him in the Euros and it looked like Rami broke his spine when he tried to catch up with his movement 
Chiellini or Bonucci should have been there in place of Piqué, and I could think of a handful of other defenders who were better than the Spaniard, was garbage at times last year.
