2024-2025 Underrated players of the season

Inigo Martinez.

Doesn’t have the profile of Araujo or the hype of Curbasi but I think he’s a really underrated defender over the course of his career who’s been excellent this year.

He’s been on the periphery of the National Team most of his career but I’d have him as a similar ability to Pique honestly.

Good shout. Think it's because he didn't quite live up to the early hype around him, the dude was the CB prospect across various FM editions etc, but he ended up spending his entire career (until now) at above-average clubs.

There are so many underrated Spanish players from the early/mid 2010s because of the NT being so outrageously stacked with talent and many of them never getting near the team as a result despite being class.

Don't know if they're underrated at this point but can't see past that Milenkovic/Murillo partnership. The next best thing behind Saliba/Gabriel within the league.

Does Timber count? He’s one of the best fullbacks in the world but doesn’t seem to get that level of recognition from non Arsenal supporters.

Daniel Muñoz is outstanding, think they paid £7m, he plays as a wingback but he is very good defensively.
6 goals and 6 assists this season so far, plays like Dani Alves.

I think he felt loyalty to Basque clubs beyond what he should’ve done.

It’s more complicated with those guys tbh.

Murillo has always been brilliant when I've watched Forest. Think he deserves a shout.

Jaoa Gomes. Wolves best player and a regular starter for Brazil. I said it 12-18 months ago this guy is going right to the top and he's had an outstanding season again.

I don't think I've seen Tyler Dibling 19, mentioned but in an awful Soton team he looks like a player with a bright future.

Bilal El Khannouss Leicester City, 20 years old like Dibling a player that will have interest in him, exciting talent.

Matz Sels NF GK 33, has a good back four in front of him but he's made some outstanding saves for Forest in his first full season a great buy, looks a real bargain at 7m euro bought deadline day winter 2024.

Really similar to Kai when you think about it. Crazy work rate, good athlete, good movement, brutally inconsistent in front of goal etc. Always finds himself making it into the starting XI because managers to appreciate what he brings.

I mentioned it before it's actually crazy that only he came back from three serious long term injuries but he's done so at a top level putting in arguably the best performances of his career. He's an absolute testament. Couldn't happen to a better guy too, he deserves more flowers than he gets.

Really similar to Kai when you think about it. Crazy work rate, good athlete, good movement, brutally inconsistent in front of goal etc. Always finds himself making it into the starting XI because managers to appreciate what he brings.

You are welcome to have Kai at West Ham.

 

[Mitch]

Gabriel - Between him and VVD for best CB this season, yet I don't think he featured in many pundits team of the season that I've seen.

Ndiaye - Everton's most talented player since Rooney. One of most exciting players to watch in the league. Best performing LW in PL this season. No appreciation for him outside of Everton fans weirdly.

Timber - Best and most complete RB in the league and one our top 5 best performing players this season. Shocking that no pundit has his in their team of the season out of the ones I've seen.

Iwobi - I was glad to see the back of him when we got rid but he really has shined this season for Fulham. Good for him.


Damsgaard, Norsgaard, Wissa, Welbeck, Harvey Barnes, Will Hughes, Lacroix, Kamara and chalobah are all underrated too.
