4-4-2? 4-5-1? 4-3-3?

YeahBee

Terrible hot takes
that is the team I would start with to, and the good thing is that several of our plaeyrs could play multiple roles

now that we've signed rosicky, the team is pretty much should be a given:

henry-reyes
rosicky-cesc-gilberto-hleb
cole-senderos-toure-eboue
lehmann

the same for me aswell, only rosicky on the right and hleb on the left. hleb can play on both sides, and i don't think rosicky has played at LW before.

However Hleb has already built up a great understanding with Cesc and Eboue on the right - which made it the more productive flank last season in contrast to the Pires/Cole/Henry axis of the past.

I would like to play 4-3-3 like Netherland is :

--------------------------Lehman-------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------Toure------------------Senderos---------------
-Eboue-------------------------------------------------A.Cole-
--------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------Gilberto--------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
--------Fabregas/Hleb------------Rosicky/hleb--------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
---V.Persie\Ljumb------------------------Henry\Reyes------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------Adebay/Henry--------------------------

a great attacking and of course atraktiv formation would be :)

that the perfect formation i think, bit like the dutch and Barcelona formation. i hope wenger uses it

actually, rosicky played quite a few times on the left side when he played for sparta prague. he had a role similar to pires used to have here, in which he often drifted into the middle...

besides, as jinn mentioned, cesc, eboue and hleb are in the process of developing a terrific 'triangle' on the right side. i don't want to disturb or break that up.

henry van persie
rosicky cesc gilberto hleb
cole senderos toure lauren/eboue
lehmann

reyes could play inplace of van persie
and ljungberg instead of hleb
but if cashley is sold and with senderos out for three months
defence looks a little stretched with
clichy djorou toure lauren/eboue

how many of these do we have a year?
i'll take a pot shot that we'll play 4-4-2 in prem, 4-5-1 in europe, sometimes switching to 4-5-1 in prem depending on oppoistion/injuries.
its not a secret, wenger hardly ever changes formation (last years 451 was one exception). we will stay the same as last season with rosicky for pires on the left.
only debate in formation is who plays upfront with henry, and who plays in the middle of a 4-5-1

there is no doubt that 442 is the best...we have won all our titles with it...there is no doubt!

we ain't gonna be signing another forward so sticking 4-4-2 would be the best option.

i do expect adebayor to play in the CL, gives us a ying/yang situation up-front.

we got to the champions league final playing 4-5-1. we only got to 4th place playing 4-4-2, why would we even consider not playing 4-5-1?

rosicky is not a left mid, so thats another point.

I think we will go, in certain games, 4-3-3 at home and 4-5-1 away. I think we'll see less of 4-4-2 than in recent years.

i still dont get this 4-5-1 "turning into" 4-3-3 business. either theyre midfielders, or theyre forwards. end of.

when ash and eboue go bombing forward on the attack, do we switch from 4-4-2 to 2-6-2?

they don't both make overlapping runs at the same time so 3-5-2. Think about it, when Cole(or whatever LB was playing last season really take your pick) made an overlapping run down the left, Pires or Henry was usually there, Pires cuts inside, the fullback runs all the way down towarsd the line, and Henry is wherever he needs to be to get the ball. On the other side, the midfield try to stay out wide so they can be open for a pass/cross across the field or also be able to make a diagonal run inside.

i believe we should play 4-5-1 moving into 4-3-3. i just dont believe we should waste the great attacking midfielders we have, just give 3 of the midfielders freedom to roam around from attackimng to defense, much more difficult to mark when they're all over the place.fabregas and gilberto centre, with reyes, rosicky and ljungberg running free.

It all depends on the opponent we play and where we play. Wenger has already switched 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 accordingly. He's already been playing the team flexibly last season.

4-4-2 for easy games, but play 4-5-1 in big games where midfield is always key and we don't want to be out muscled or outnumbered. And if teams like Bolton play that system, play the same so we aren't outnumbered and class, not brutality pays dividends.
