20M is the realistic fee for Ramsdale clubs in PL are restricted because of the rules they won't going to over spend.

Would be interesting to understand more about what’s happened here. It’s in some way bad communication or imbalance of power between Edu and Arteta. But I think miscommunication is a very unlikely explanation, more probable someone has in some way ****ed up. Most likely Edu.

The defence and Rice won us the league.

We’re in the same position here as we were with Martinez. We can’t have a 20m plus keeper sat on the bench all season.

This reeks of a late window loan + option, with us revisiting the situation next summer.

The truth is, Edu just can't sell or can't manage the squad on top of Arteta. It's the same story every year.

If he hadn't extended he'd be a bench keeper with 1 year left on his contract so we can't ask for 30 million anyway.

Spent 70-odd million on two 7/10 goalkeepers in three seasons and now we're talking about FFP issues etc. In the end it all comes to bite you back.

He was on £60,000 a week, then we gave him a new deal on £120,000 last May before replacing him three months later. 🫠
They gave him pay rise in may last season while already deciding they wanted a new me 1. Unless he was seen as be 1 until the season ended and he did something in the summer that made them change his mind. Either way once again we seeing how useless Edu is

Yeah there’s ofc the odd chance something did happen, but Raya interest had been longstanding.

Edu has to start being a director. This is a situation where you together with Arteta decide on Whether Ramsdale is your no 1 or not. If it’s decided then by all means give him the raise, but then you put your foot down when Arteta comes crying about wanting a new shiny toy.

If Arteta has already voiced his concern and desire for a new goalie then you don’t offer the raise.

Very hard to see how this doesn’t fall on Edu

That doesn't look the best decision now tbf .
Would he have only had 12 months left now though if we hadn't?
If so we had to extend really or risk losing him for prob £15m now.

At least we could loan him & get a fee now + sale later.

A good season on loan & his fee goes up.

I always said edu working for Arteta is gonna end in disaster. Most managers don’t care about finance and will hoard players. When Ramsdale was being extended it should have been made clear to the manager this is your long term nr 1. We have so many players being overpaid that they had to give so many players away. Then they decided to just overpay the next patch like Nketiah, Nelson and Ramsdale and now they are stuck

Didn't The Athletic report that we may have to let him go out on loan due to teams not being prepared to pay our asking fee?

Interesting situation because we're potentially losing 3 keepers and we've yet to make Raya official.

Hein and Okonkwo are leaving on a free.

Normally I would want to sell at pretty much all costs, kinda ****ed this situation and he's on high wages.

But honestly **** Newcastle even more, they need to pay up if them want him... he's a good keeper that's worth the money, otherwise piss off.

It’s not about him being worth the money or not. I think he’s easily worth 30m. But all of this comes down to the bad negotiation position we’ve put ourselves in due to bad asset management.

We have no negotiating leverage here and everyone knows it

TBF they have protected the asset value. Worst case scenario is he goes out on loan and is probably sold for £20m next season. If Villa are paying £20m 4 seasons back, we shouldn't be taking less than that

His contract would have apparently ended in 2025 without the extension. He would now have 1 year left in contract and all the cards, and Arsenal would get less money.

He can’t stay though. You can’t have backup keeper on 120k. And one more year not playing will plummet his value

We had to renew his contract because I believe he'd had one year left. We likely given him more pay raise than he deserves.

Still shouldn't be major problem for majority PL teams. First thing we need to do is to ask for more realistic fee his time here is over can't loan and if we loan it have to be obligation

We shoukdn't budge on the price tag. Some neolithic club executive will blink & we'll get the £30 million.
