It’s not about him being worth the money or not. I think he’s easily worth 30m. But all of this comes down to the bad negotiation position we’ve put ourselves in due to bad asset management.

We have no negotiating leverage here and everyone knows it

We don't need leverage. If someone wants him pay the money. If not he can stay as no.2 considering he's got 3 years on his contract. Most of the money we get for him will probably go on some bum who's not even as good.

We had to renew his contract because I believe he'd had one year left. We likely given him more pay raise than he deserves.

Still shouldn't be major problem for majority PL teams. First thing we need to do is to ask for more realistic fee his time here is over can't loan and if we loan it have to be obligation
No he had 3 years left when we extended him

Why can't we loan? If we can get his wages covered and it increases his value it makes sense to loan.

You dont drop him 3 months after signing it. Why should we lose out yet again?
Why not? That's what clubs do to protect the value. Arsenal got Raya for cheap because he had only one year left.

Arsenal can't get as big fee because of his current wages, but they also are not forced to sell him for cheap. So overall they likely get better money now, than if he had a short contract left and is not needed anymore.

This seems a bit like people complaining about not losing Nelson and Nketiah for free, and giving them ~100k per week contracts. Now Arsenal has had cover in title challenging seasons when there haven't been enough funds, and they will bring some instant profit, whatever that sum is.

It depends on how much we bumped his wages by tbh. A new contract can have the opposite effect if you smash demand down because of how high the wages are. I haven’t looked at the numbers or followed this thread since the £15m rumours but I don’t see how anyone can say we’ve protected value if that’s where we’re still at…

What would have protected value would have been actually giving him reasonable minutes.

Him playing so little and having 1 year left would have meant there is zero advantage for Arsenal in negotiations. That would be a very low fee.

No sense in risking the season when Raya played well, and we saw a Ramsdale calamity instantly he played.

£15m is already a very low fee though

Why add value then tank it ffs? You have put yourself out of pocket either way!

Because Arteta wants to win titles and it's very small margins vs. City.

Raya was a loan, and a cheap GK in current markets because of his contract situation. Arsenal had two great GK's this season in case one gets injured.
