Aaron Ramsdale: Toys Out Of The Pramsdale

Don’t let anybody put Maignan and Ramsdale in same sentence.
Since I follow AC Milan, I watch him on weekly basis.
He is level above Ramsdale.

Do you really think Maignan doing exercises while France is winning 14-0, and never losing concentration or taking his eye off the game, is the same thing as Ramsdale turning his back on the game to engage with the fans and sing songs while the ball is in play?
In this particular game, against Gibraltar, he really had nothing to do.
There was no 1 single shot on his goal.

Both Mikel and Aaron have made a real mess of this situation. I do have to say I can understand the frustration from the Ramsdale camp. I too would have liked to have seen him develop well and keep his spot for 10 years. He really did look that good when he was signed and replaced Leno. And Raya isn’t the same kind of upgrade at all.

There’s also no way that Raya being spanish and in a bromance with his former Brentford coach at Arsenal isn’t playing on his mind either. It’s easy to make conclusions based on that info alone. It’ll only strengthen the idea that he was never getting a straight chance with these paella munchers (kidding).

Ramsdale did this to himself the way his performances dropped the ball on the run in during a title challenge. That alone could be perhaps forgivable. But his ball playing at his feet seems to have regressed. And he performed poorly in pre-season.

And Raya isn't a small upgrade when it comes to passing out from the back, he's a huge upgrade. You can put the Man City win squarely at his feet if you pardon the pun. Because Raya passing through their press tired their legs out for the rest of the game.

As Arsenal fans we got used to accepting players having poor performances and Arsène waiting for the player to develop or accepting mediocrity. We should be thankful we've finally got ruthless under Arteta

Being a goalkeeper (and a bit of a geek for this sort of stuff) I watched a podcast Ramsdale was on, (Yours, mine, away Podcast) where Aaron talks about the gloves he wears and that he's a size 8. Most pro keepers are usually around a size 10, Raya also did an interview on the same podcast and mentioned he's a size 11.5 o_O
Personally I find that crazy that Ramsdale, who is 6'2 is only a size 8. I'm the same height as him and grew out of size 8 when I was around 14/15.
I've genuinely never seen a pro keeper at this level wearing a size 8, thats crazy small hands.

I haven't read the thread, apologies..
Just wanted to say that ramsdale can't complain about somebody coming in and taking his position when he did the same to Leno.
Keepers should be no more immune than any other position.

Ramsdale isn’t good enough to be first keeper for a team aspiring to be the best in the world, simple as.

But the same can be said about Raya, and they’ll soon have to re-assess the keeper situation again I’m afraid

This is my problem with the situation. It’s creating an issue for marginal gains. Sure, Raya looks comfortable with the ball but he’s had his fair share of shaky moments.

The look on Ian Wright's face says it all
Think of the money he’s getting paid to day dream.

I saw a weak headline elsewhere saying that Ramsdale is going to be given a run in the team after the international break to recover his place. I haven’t gone far back in this thread to check, has anyone seen a reasonable source for this?

It sounded like clickbait (Arsenal showing they want him so he doesn’t twerk for a sale before January) so I skipped it.

I don't think he should be let go in January anyway, because there's no hope of getting that done, a reasonable back-up, and a striker which should really be the top priority. (If Rob Holding starting at the Etihad was bad, imagine the meltdown here if Karl Hein does . . .)

That said, I really don't understand the noises out of the Ramsdale camp. Unless he's toxic, he should get no less than three games before the window closes: Brentford because Raya can't play, and a dead CL tie and the first FA Cup game if the normal cup/league division of labor holds. Maybe even the CL game in week five if he plays well against Brentford and Arteta is persuaded to start the cup/leauge division then. Train hard, show up in the games you're almost certain to get, and either get back in good graces or earn a really good transfer. This all seems very self-defeating now.

Southgate prefers Pickford, Pope and Johnston but yet Arsenal fans can't understand why Mikel has looked for another option. Pashun gets you far i guess.

Fwiw, i wanted Ramsdale to work out, he had a presence in goal and a bit of personality, a little like Schmeichel. But that and the blonde/white hair is where the comparisons end. My issue with Ramsdale is that he's just not a very good keeper. As others have said, he concedes too many goals where you think, he could have saved that. His kicking has become a lot worse. He just has too many flaws in his game.

Pope hasn’t even been in last two selections. He is 4th choice now and even Johnston gets picked ahead of him

I was a supporter of Ramsdale but I understood replacing him after his poor calendar year in 2023. I did think it was harsh to not continue giving him the UCL games, and I think it would have been smarter for Arteta to do this to avoid the internal situation which has developed.

But his dad has made a total mess of things and the situation is totally untenable now.

This is not true - Ramsdale was given a start vs Scotland in a big (albiet) friendly. I think Rammers would have started a few more games for England if he were still first choice here.

That would be the worst thing ever. Unless you saying CL don’t matter. Why would you not play your best keeper in the CL or the one you think is best? Whoever is nr 1 plays pl and CL. Never heard a team having a CL keeper

It's definitely been done and others have given some examples.

In most cases, you have a massive gap between your starting keeper and your backup - look at the options at City or Liverpool or whatever.

In a situation like this where you have two relatively equal options and Ramsdale was considered good enough to start every game last year (and nearly win the league) and the PL games to start this season? Absolutely. Keep everyone happy. Keep Ramsdale's transfer value up. Keep players fresh and not overused.

Ramsdale is done here. We have signed Raya on 5yr contract. I think Ramsdale will join Chelsea in January

Is Sanchez non HG? If not, I don't see the point of Chelsea going for him.

In the end those criticizing the transfer back then might have been right, a lose lose deal where we downgraded and Ramsdale also downgraded because all he did here was becoming worse at distributing the ball.

Arsenal Quotes

In 1997/98 we became English champions as I had set myself three missions to carry out which I felt were essential. One: to have an impact on the result and the team's playing style. Two: to foster the player's individual development. Three: to strengthen the structure of the club and enhance its global influence.
