Finally some clarity. What I take is that Arteta is trying to give him a massive push and send him a message and if he doesnt get it then I question the intelligence of AMN and we can sell him in the summer.

It's the non negotiable. He's done it to Ceballos, Pepe and Guendouzi. However there is precedent that if you put in the work you will get given a chance.

Soares is back in training meaning there is two right backs and with Tierney back there are two left backs. Effectively means that AMN is 3rd choice right back and left back. However with Torreira injured he is now 4th choice central midfielder and effectively the only specialist dm at the club right now.

So he has a big choice but an easy one to make. Go to Arteta, say you are taking that DM spot, put the work in, get your start and put in a motm performance then maintain the work.

Or just carry on smiling in training pictures like you are just happy to be here and get sold.

Özil at 10 And Emery Out
Usually this would be fine, but regardless how hard Bellerin is training, he's been a liability.
Hopefully it also has to do with AMN making it clear that he doesn’t want to play RB and is now competing with the CM/DMs. He’ll have to accept that he’s very low in the pecking order in that case and work hard for a place in the team which is understandable because he hasn’t really played in that position in years.
It’s unfortunate because he’s been miles better than Bellerin at RB under Arteta imo.

I think Arteta is doing the right thing. Not just regarding this situation with Niles, each and every player needs to be commited to the cause, the club and manager. And i believe in time we will have such an environment again. Results should follow, the progress may not be linear but two steps forward and one back and all that.

He can't eat his cake and have it. He wanted to play in midfield. So he's got to sit in bench till his opportunity comes.

He's not competing with Bellerin, he's a midfielder. Bellerin is a defender

This is my feeling on it. Arteta has clearly given everyone the incentive by prioritizing training and who's buying in - he's shown he'll give the opportunities, as he's done for Nketiah, Nelson, Saka and Willock so far. If AMN isn't buying in, then he doesn't deserve to be playing IMO.
He can't keep taking it easy, he's gotta look at the likes of Torreira, Guendouzi and Ceballos and out-work, out-train them and really try to build on his game. Give the team something they don't have, something they need, emphasize that in training and don't give Arteta an option to not notice you or overlook you.

I have to say, it isn't looking great for AMN right now, but we said that about Ceballos and he worked his bollocks off to get back in the team. Arteta will give him a chance IMO - but only if he earns it on the training pitch.

AMN has been excellent when he's played under Arteta, Bellerin has been woeful and is clearly finished at the top level. Arteta's getting annoying, Lacazette and Özil are clearly holding us back tremendously but start because they train well. Training is important, but match day performance is most important and amn has been mostly excellent. Unless he's been shockingly lazy in sessions this doesn't make much sense.

Bellerin was woeful when he won us the game at stamford bridge?
It makes sense if Arteta says so as he sees him day in, day out in training. How long have we had players taking it easy here?
AMN has talent but you need application just as much. I trust Arteta to be setting an example to the rest of the players. Work hard or you dont play.

Looking for receipts 👀
Would love to see AMN get a run of game in centre midfield. That being said he mustnt be doing the business in training. Is atlethic can get about the pitch well and is decent enough on the ball. Think if he doesnt breakthrough before summer he will be off as it seems even willock is preferred over him in.

That's short term thinking. I think he's trying to build a culture for the long term. All the players you mentioned above are not part of the long term plans anyway.

If you let a player as insignificant as AMN walk into the team for short term results, despite training poorly - you have already lost.

It was a 2-2 draw... #JUSTSAYIN

If working hard in training is a prerequisite for playing games then AMN doesn’t have anyone but himself to blame for not playing if he isn’t working hard enough in training. Arteta clearly has set this rule, which I think we all agree with, and the it applies to AMN as anyone else of the players. Seems pretty simple to me.

Arteta vs Maitland-Niles’ mom incoming...

She's probably to blame for his attitude. When you have a Mum acting like you're far better than you are, maybe you start to believe it. Arteta's message is very clear, knuckle down, put in a shift, or you're of no use to this club. I have never rated him anyway, he wont be here for much longer.

You're wrong, no?

Cool, did Özil put in a shift when he was defending a corner against Olympiacos? Areta's message is not clear at all, it's obvious he has double standards for some players or it's only important what you do in training but on the matchday you can basically sleep on corners and hope someone else will clear it for you

He seems to take a harder line with the younger players than the experienced ones.

It is quite possible (just speculating) there are disciplinary characteristics Arteta sees in some like stretching, diet, recovery and general conduct that need work.

The problem is that someone can still put in a MotM performance on match day if they are late to training every day and spend warm ups laughing and joking. I'd rather see a player of AMN/Willock's mobility and strength in midfield than Guendouzi in certain games.

I have no qualms with setting standards overall though. As long as it's applied consistently and to everybody.

Power shifted back to him now.

Hope he takes the opportunity! May not be needed vs Westham but atleast 6 tricky games left in the league.
