Does AMN have poor pass completion because he passes backwards or sideways?

Or does he attempt to play forward in tight spaces and between lines?

Tell him to pass backwards for 90 minutes and he will have the same pass completion as our current options.

Our midfield is Elneny and Ceballos. We have the worst midfield in the league and apparently AMN isn't good enough to play in it.

You don’t get points for trying. I’d rather sideways passing than a player pass forward but fail 9 times out of 10, it’s what puts the team in trouble. I admire effort but the execution has to be good, otherwise it’s just terrible.

Bruh I would rather see AMN, Smith-Rowe and Saka than El-neny, Xhaka and Ceballos. Hell maybe give Azeez a debut. Every time I see the midfield options it just drains my energy. Really need Partey to come back asap.

So you would rather play sideways and backwards. Than take the risk of playing a forward pass, because of what happens if we lose the ball?

That is exactly the way Arteta thinks, that is exactly why we cannot create anything. That is why we have Elneny picking the ball up in midfield, with 5 City players out of the game, and he turns and passes it backwards.

Possession is not 9 tenths of the law. We should not be afraid of losing the ball. Alexis Sanchez lost the ball at the same rate as Bruno Fernandes. How many forward passes or driven sweeping crosses does De Bruyne try? I have seen him hit 3 balls first time out of play in quick succession looking to make things happen.

So what if Pepe dribbles 10 times and loses it 9 times.

The point is, it doesn't have to be that high of a risk where if we play a forward pass we get ripped on the counter. Play AMN in midfield and you discourage the opposition from going through the middle. Play Saliba at the back and you can squeeze up and press as you have the pace to recover. Play ESR and you have a player who can run beyond and stretch defences as well as occupy zone 14. Play Martinelli and you have movement.

Basically, don't play Xhaka, Ceballos, Elneny, Lacazette, Willian, Holding.

Maybe

You're wrong, no?

Losing the ball is a problem for us because we don't win it back after we lose it. You can't have a high turnover volume if you can't master press tactics to allow players to lose the ball but win it back fast enough.
Then again, that team of yours would probably win the ball much quicker than the teams selected by Arteta, his selections always have 2 players that are not mobile enough to press, and if you have a weakness in your pressing game, then the whole thing doesn't work and make our team an easy target on the counter.

It's interesting to compare that to some of the major changes in the NBA. A while ago, the best teams always relied on having a dominant center, but today, the best teams will ignore that and they will take as many 3 point attempts as possible (for Arsenal that would be Pepe and Saka, players who take the risk with a high turnover rate), and will simply overrun teams that are slow (current Arsenal team).

Your team above would be exactly the same as a modern run & gun NBA team. The team would concede a lot but would have more chances to score more by winning the ball faster and making more risky plays, which proved to be a winning formula in the NBA

Going by stats, AMN’s midfield performance against City is the worst midfield performance of any player we’ve seen this season. I’m not saying midfielders should play sideways, they need to play forward passes but they need to pick the moment when the timing is right and execute the passes right so as to not lose possession. A midfielder must not have less than 70% pass accuracy it’s a poor performance. Quality midfielders are able to create chances or find players in space higher up the pitch whilst maintaining good passing accuracy (over 80%). AMN doesn’t have the ability. Besides, he was misplacing simple passes.

You're talking mostly about the Warriors and the way Kerr had them set up with the splash bros and Durant. They had insane talent though. Basically ended up breaking all sorts of records .

It depends on team personnel. A team like the Sixers will still play through the post most times cause they have a talented Center in Joel Embiid.

Even though the Warriors played small ball, run n gun basketball, they were still elite on defense cause of the versatility of players like Draymond, Iguodala and Durant. They also moved the ball extremely well on offense.

I think the current Arsenal team does not really have enough technical players to play possession footie. We should play at a much faster pace as a counter attacking team.

Only Özil, Saka, Partey and Nelson on this current team look like they have the intelligence and technique to play possession football properly.

If he is not going to be given a chance in midfield or as first choice RB, he should be sold this summer. We need to raise money and there is no point for neither himself nor the club to keep going like this, playing a game as left back once in a while.

His best games last season came at left back and that’s where he played for England too. Only excuse is perhaps his lack of game I guess. Was horrid.

That is a fair assessment. Playing left back was obviously always going to be a tall order, but he is a square peg in a round hole at the moment. I don't see us playing him in midfield either.

Should have been sold last summer. He seems to be disinterested. Probably still wants to play CM. If we can't give him that, we should just have an open conversation and let him go.

Niles is no LB..not even a RB. However he cannot play in an Arsenal midfield. Simple ! He could not have done anything more than Ceballos , Partey and Xhaka today in that midfield. Squad player at best.
