GUNNERS SET THEIR SIGHTS ON ITALIAN STAR ALBERTO

ARSENAL are tracking Italy's Under-21 midfielder Alberto Aquilani.

And the Gunners, always on the look-out for the best emerging talent, are well aware that Aquilani has emerged as one of the world's top young stars.

The 22-year-old was watched by Gilles Grimandi, who is in line to be named the Gunners' new director of football, as Italy beat Portugal on penalties at the European Under-21 Championship on Thursday to qualify for the Olympic Games. The Roma play-maker was named man-of-the-match for a superb display and spectacular long-range strike in the 2-2 draw with England the previous week.

And that display was enough for Grimandi to be dispatched to Holland to run the rule over the elegant midfielder.

All of Europe's leading clubs had representatives monitoring the Championship. Aquilani was acknowledged by the scouting fraternity as one of the true stars of the tournament.

I hope that's just a smoke screen and he was there to see Pazzini. Aquilani would be a waste of money.

I greatly doubt Pazzini will leave Fiorentina, where he's almost always assured of a starting place, for another team.

It would be a shock if he left Roma, from comments he seems as loyal as Totti.

Great player and I think would add to squad but deal is not going to happen.

Aquilani is not bad, but he is way too inconsistent right now.
And as a top Italian talent, he would be VERY expensive, wouldn't he?

Don't believe this rumour anyway.

Seems someone at the Mirror has been running the bullshit-genrator again...

I think it would take more than £8 million to get him, for thats what Palermo bid for him last season and Roma did not accept it.

oh brilliant, another central midfielder/in-the-hole playmaker. We'll shove him in as soon as we can shift Rosicky and Hleb to full-back, Cesc can play as the lone striker, Freddie and Denilson could probably pair up at centre-half and Merida can go in goal when he comes through. Moutinho is an absolute must as well. This formation of 11 men in the centre-circle could be just what we need.

what utter b*****ks.

makes sense to start scouting for possible fabregas replacements as he's made it clear his future is totally dependent on the Boss's

Weve known about messi for ages too. He has always had the option to joi Arsenal. Infact he has said that he was told by one of our representatives that there will always be a place for him at Arsenal. But this was when he signed Cesc.
