Two years ago, everyone was clamoring for him to start.

Now, everyone wants him gone.

Not sure why, but he seems bereft of confidence.

No comment on his recent and longer term form because he's been quite poor generally albeit with some nice link up play here and there, but doesn't it seem weird that his best performances have been from the left. Welbeck's played on the right quite a lot for us....seems it makes sense to have Iwobi on the left side.

Wenger's a weird one you know, because I remember Alexis having some outstanding performances on the right hand side as well, but we haven't seen him on the right since. Think Iwobi's better coming in from the left anyway.

never seen a player who has absolutely no idea how to press or just run effectively. So innefectual off the ball and not much better on the ball.

While I expect a lot of improvement in next couple of years his game seems much more natural on the left.

Yep far more natural coming in on his right foot from a left position than he is taking people on the outside and maybe crossing it in. Look a to play with a bit more freedom too, Wilshere, Xhaka and Özil all in a relatively central area times lessen the burden on him a bit.

Didn’t we suffer a similar problem with Chamberlain where Wenger continuously played him on the wrong side? Still doesn’t belong in the team every week but was amazing what difference the change made for him.

Looks 5x more comfortable on the left, which makes sense considering he was cutting inside anyway from the right. Anyone who's ever played football knows how difficult it is to cut in on your weaker foot.

He reminds me of a young Nasri. Ball sticks to his feet but he doesn't quite know when to release it yet, and he lacks end-product to be a truly effective winger. The same complaint about contributing a whole lot of nothing was leveled at Nasri until he exploded.

This is a good point. Iwobi much of a crosser on the wing, he always wants to cut in and attack the goal. Left should suite him a lot more.

Better defensive aptitude today but he still seems clueless at times in the final third. It's the best games he's had in a while and can still improve.

There is definitely something in the LW vs RW discussion. Last year, he was also very good when we played a front line of Iwobi-Alexis-Walcott. Mkhi was a right winger in his super-season with Dortmund, so a front line of Iwobi-Auba/Laca-Mkhi could work quite well.
