Well I don't think Laca is a clear 9 when Auba is on the wing. They switch and Laca is coming to defend etc.

I cannot upload a picture here, wtf. And understat.com doesn't allow to copy paste link to the picture. Anyway, you can find it here: https://understat.com/player/3277, and put Firmino to comparison, and choose season 2018/2019.

Laca first, Firmino in brackets:

xGChain90 0.80 (vs 0.83)
xGBuildup90 0.32 (vs 0.31)
G90 0.47 (vs 0.41)
xG90 0.43 (vs 0.47)
Sh90 2.92 (vs 2.57)
A90 0.29 (vs 0.21)
xA90 0.15 (vs 0.22)
KP 90 1.12 (vs 1.47)

What do you base on the "falls well short of Firmino creatively"? That sounds like a very big difference.

Take into account the quality difference in one winger and at least one fullback between the teams last season (Jenkinson/Lichtsteiner + Iwobi/Mkhi). Them making mistakes naturally affects Laca's stats.

I mean Lacazette’s natural position both at Arsenal and before where’s Firmino has never really specialised in leading the line.

He’s always been more of a second striker, tbf those numbers are pretty similar but in terms of the eye test I’ve seen Firmino make dribbles and passes that I’ve never seen Lacazette make.

Yeah, well I have always thought Firmino is a bit better. But these stats makes one think. I'm not sure if all people here see Laca's good plays very clearly, could be related to psychology.

There is a difference in some of those in favour of Firmino being better in build-up. Passes leading to shots the biggest difference (KP90) But Laca has more assists for example.

And the team mate point still stands in my view affecting those stats somewhat.

Didn’t play well, but Auba is just as frustrating as him but in different ways...at least when Laca came on we had someone to play off, as Abe just can’t play with his back to goal...Henry was these two mixed together, and still better

I know he wasn’t fully fit after a month off of football so I’ll cut him so slack but if you think this guy can do the Firmino role for us then you are going to be disappointed. He doesn’t trap the ball well under pressure on a consistent basis, instead he will fall over and look for the foul. Doesn’t have the athleticism or the stamina to press like Firmino does. He’s okay and he’s tidy on the ball but he isn’t going to solve our problems

Laca is better than Firmino. One just plays for a far better team.

The hate . It's as if he wasn't out for a month, came on as a late sub and expected to changed the game. I'm almost glad he was ineffective, you ingrates.

He played about a month with an injured ankle aswell before the injury became just too much, clearly really loves playing for Arsenal as even when playing badly he is always working which I like to see.

Don't take this as a personal attack, I actually think you are one of the better posters in this forum. Have seen myself strongly agreeing with you on many topics in here. But when it comes to Lacazette I think you are being extremely harsh on him. You seem to have made up your mind and thus when it comes to his stats, your judegment seems to be very clouded.

He's a £55 million striker, should we not expect him to offer anything coming off the bench? Giroud used to always get goals as a sub.

We should expect him to offer us something from the bench, but you have to admit it is harder to score when you only have about 20 odd minutes instead of 90. Not sure you should be mentioning Giroud as an example.

If we take his stats for Chelsea last season they read as follows.

Played in 27 games. 7 starts, 20 subs. 2 goals. Only 1 away goal. Giroud isn't as effective off the bench as you seem to think.

The season before that he started the season with us before being transferred to Chelsea at January. He was involved in 8 away games with us, getting only 1 goal. Again proving that it is harder to contribute from the bench.

The season preceding those two is perhaps his best away scoring season, getting 9 away goals, including a few as a subs. I think this season is the one you remember Giroud coming off the bench and scoring on a regular basis. However that wasn't the norm for him. He was more likely not to get a lot of away goals like his first season with us. In which he played in all but 2 of our away games but scored again just 1 away goal the whole season. That is at least 2 separate seasons where he got 1 away goal all season. I shudder to think how this thread would be if Laca ever put out numbers like that. Shouts of "1 away goal all season!" would be repeated every other post.

He looked hungry when he came on. That and Pepe performance is about the only positives from last night.

I always think he’s so valuable but then I look at his numbers and they aren’t very good are they? I’m always really shocked at quite how few goals he has.
Needs to do better now he’s back as Auba is bound to go through a dip and we have no one else to score
