2 of our 3 best players are strikers. In their short time together they have shown to both be more effective playing in tandem than apart. So yes, to break that up so you can have one on the bench in case of emergency rather than play them together to mitigate the likelihood of emergency arising is in fact lunacy.
Ok brother have it your way. Its not upto me or you. All depends of the coach at the end of the day. What formation he prefers what players he feel strike the best combination to give the team balance and a leading edge.

Because it wouldn't be the first time a manager left one of their best players on the bench. Call zidane a lunatic. Call pep a lunatic.

Its one thing to challenge ones opinion another thing to straight out insult it.

Laca with Welbeck's physical qualities would easily be top 3 strikers in football. If he could somehow improve his stamina and burst of pace...

Improve burst of pace?
If Giroud can do that he’d be another Drogba.
Welbeck would be a top striker if he improves his finishing.
Walcott can also be a world class if he has the technique of Ronaldinho.

So umm are we going to tiptoe around the disparity in the depth and quality of the squads Pep and Zidane employed that tactic in relative to what Emery has to work with? Did you even think of that before coming up with such a poor example? You don't see how there might be just a wee bit of difference between doing what you're suggesting with CR7 or Messi and a Modric or Xavi and a Ramos or Puyol on the pitch at all times versus doing it with Ramsey, Özil and Mustafi? If Pep or Zidane tried to do what you're suggesting with this squad they would qualify as a lunatic.

You know why Pep doesn't have to play Jesus and Aguero together? Because he's got Silva, KDB, Sterling, Mane and now Mahrez as goal threats. Liverpool's bench was pretty thin last year. Should Klopp have left Mane or Firmino on the bench so they could be an "impact player"? Maybe he could have waited until their gash defense was down 3-0 and then brought them on to make that impact. I'm sure that would have worked a treat for them. I mean do you see how silly that sounds? Rotate them occasionally, sure. Obviously you don't want either burning out. But we've seen what happens when a manager tries to be cute and create a hole for no reason. Remember when Wenger dropped Sanchez against Liverpool to punish him or whatever and then had to bring him on to try to rescue the day as we were being played off the pitch? That's what you're advocating for most weeks. Nobody with sense wants that.

point being neither the of pea and lacazette are wide players, i dont want our central strikers outwide when they are probably best suited for centrals role, in a 433 formation. now given that the line up was some variation with upfront then by all means play them together because that's out best 2.

then maybe young nketiah off the bench.

for all your bullshit conjecture of what i supposedly was trying to convey was far off. need i remind you that we still have options to sign more players, bring back unused players ie, joel campbel or lucas perez whether or not they are good enough is upto the coach.

just slotting in your favorite set of players on paper doesn't create chemistry. or give the team best chance to succeed.

btw its not because pep has debryne and silva. it simply what he is looking for in his players to do on the pitch. liverpool simply had no ****ing choice in the matter, llalanha and sturridge was always injured.

Literally the first 3 words of my initial response to you was "So sign someone." Dear oh dear.

While that is the solution. Its not my job ive done plenty post on the need for natural width.

Without that i dont think alternative is to push our strikers out of position just they are amongst the best 11 we can come up with. it doesnt do a sensible game plan justice, because that leave us without cover or 2nd game plan.

Yes your initial response was spot on but then you went on to insult my opinion with some nonsense without knowing where im coming from.

This part of your post makes no sense. City and Real have a whole squad for of talent. We have 3 or 4 big players... We can fit them in together. For City and Real their styles of play and their formations prohibit certain players playing together.
You're comparing apples and oranges here.

PEA - Lacazette - Mkhi
Özil
Torreira - Xhaka/Disciplined Ramsey
Mouth watering stuff. If you at all remember the breaks PEA made on the left... You'd understand why playing him the way Arséne tried to while keeping our most clinical striker and best playmaker in their natural positions is to me the greatest way to maximise our attacking potential.

.
I can't for the life of me understand why some on this forum don;t want this... I loved it. We looked dangerous EVERY single time we got the ball.

Mods are unethical! Özil, come assist me please!
Lacazette may score as a center forward but PEA brings guarantees.

PEA as lone striker will grab a boat load of goals....Laca has not proven himself yet.

This video just came on my TL and this match is one of the reasons why I think we should play like that at home at least.

Replace Xhaka with Torreira for more defensive balance and then Iwobi with Laca and we should be even stronger both offensively and defensively.

Seeing mkhi being relegated to the bench here on AM has really been triggering for me lol. I think he’s crucial to our game to offload mesut in the creativity department and he’s an excellent player in transition which will only benefit our two dynamic and quick strikers up front. Mkhi and Özil might rekindle that form they had when they played for Dortmund/Real where they played some fast paced electric football.

What's the obsession with the starting XI?

It really doesn't matter, the season is long and you need a strong core of 18 that can freely rotate without too much of a drop in quality.

There are so many games, injuries, suspensions, different opponents that require different personnel. Just because a player starts on the bench doesn't mean they aren't important, they can make a telling contribution as a sub or in a different game more suited to their playing style, etc.

You have ramsey in your starting 11, and you talk about defensive balance?...are you joking mate?

Ramsey should be replaced by Torreira.
Xhaka is a great passer so he should be kept on the pitch.
Lacazette’s one and only strength is finishing, and he can’t dribble with skills, so Iwobi is a better choice on the wing.

Emery's obsession with analysing his team and the opposition suggests we are going to see a 'horses for courses' approach for every game

Xhaka is a big defensive liability whether he plays dm or cm. Replacing him with Torreira would definitely improve our defense. If Ramsey-Xhaka worked so well at home then there’s no reason why Ramsey - Torreira wouldn’t.

You would put Auba on the left wing obviously and laca centrally.

Xhaka is a defensive liability to you because his midfield partner ramsey, was not even there when the team needs defending, and plays like a ****ing striker.

Any world class DM would not be able to defend against a Sunday league side on his own (4v1), unless there’s an extra man helping(4v2).

And Xhaka, our passing specialist, is not even a DM.

Ramsey is the one who made us conceded so many, not Xhaka. Xhaka would play well with a proper DM. Like a pirlo with gattuso.

Look at the team as a whole. PEA will score wherever he plays and would probably get 20-30 goals (talking league here) playing on the wing and Lacazette will score the same amount playing up front. Would I rather that or PEA scoring 25-35 playing up front and Mkhitaryan scoring 5-10 on the wing? I know which I prefer. That’s not even taking into account how much better Lacazette is at holding the ball up and linking up play. You don’t get any of that with PEA up front.
