This is just making me think about the decline of the level of attackers in football.

Alexis was never considered at the same table as Ronaldo, Messi even Neymar and Suarez when he was in his prime. Imagine prime Alexis now, the best is Mbappe but you couldn't tell me prime Alexis isn't far off what Mbappe produces. Even Haaland no one could tell you with a straight face that Haaland is better than prime Alexis. I've even left out guys like Benzema and Lewa who were more in their prime around then, Bale when he was arsed, Ibra. It's a crazy decline when you think about it.

So happy to see someone like Yamal tho, we can only hope he's never coached by someone who'll not let him express himself and is more worried about how he positions himself for the team.

Took a long time to peak but in his last season with us he looked the best player in the league that season.

He was one of the best players in the league but the PL was no where near the top in Europe at the time imo. I just think we’re gassing him up massively. Look at the players Real, Barca, Inter, Bayern and even Atletico had in 2010 and then tell me if Nasri could definitely hold his own in that company.

For me the answer is “maybe”. Does maybe get you world class status?

I’ll put it this way. People can say Nasri was WC that’s fine. But no way those same people can turn around and say Saka isn’t world class at the same time.

I'd give you Real, Barca, Bayern with Xavi, Iniesta, Özil, Dimaria, Robben, Ribbery you could maybe rank over him. But some are different positions and I think a few are quite close comparisons.

I also think Nasri peaks far higher under Wenger than under City. Wenger probably builds the team around Nasri if he stays when Cesc leaves

Nasri was never WC. Aside from a 6 month purple patch (Chamakh's first 6 months), he flattered to deceive and his favourite action was a sideways pass to Clichy.

I think he gets more props than he’s owed because he was a baller.

He wasn’t all that effective given his talent, certainly not for a prolonged period of time which is one of my requirements for WC anyway. He had a WC season, that’s not the same as being WC.

Yeah that's spot on. Saka is easily on par with Nasri and a level above when on form IMO.

I guess there's some people who just elevate players once the slightest hint of nostalgia kicks in.

I think it’s the baller bias. Nasri had street skills that our current players (bar Ødegaard and Jesus) don’t really and he gets elevated in people’s minds because of that.

But tekkers is not the same thing as being a world class footballer. Quaresma was one of the most Skillfull players I’ve seen and he was also ****e.

Nasri was a very good player but let’s be real, people make out like he hit Hazard levels when he really didn’t. (Choose hazard because I think people see them as similar players).

Saka is a completely different style of player but he is very effective.

I think Nasri would be our star player easy. Saka and the others get begged so hard but meh.

Hazard is probably the world class version of Nasri tbf, absolutely unreal player that was proper underrated in his prime years, a level or two above someone like Sanchez. Combined world class playmaking with forward levels of end product. The definition of a baller as well.

Nasri was a very good player, but far from a star IMO.

Did alright for City 🤷‍♂️

Not for Pep. I’m reaching now anyway but I’m going off about as much fact as you are so I’ll stand my ground.

Just to be clear anyway, I don’t think Saka is world class. I also don’t think Nasri was world class. I just don’t understand how anyone can say Nasri was and Saka wasn’t, like what is your basis for that. It’s pure subjective nonsense.

Yup basically, Hazard is the player people think Nasri was. He wasn’t even close (imo).

Not really, we saw Nasri's entire career so I am speaking from hindsight at least. Saka's is ongoing and he's just very forced in general.

wtf are you looking at in his career that is screaming world class?!? He had 4 goals and 8 assists in the PL in three years in Man City ffs

Saka would get crucified if he returned that in one season let alone 3.

Saka takes pens and closes his eyes and blasts the ball hoping to get a deflection, this is apples and oranges.

How many people here think Nasri was WC? He had some fierce competition back then you know…

Nah never world class for me, and that's no disrespect on him he was a quality player but he was obviously a level below Cesc at the time and everyone knew it.
