Nah, not quite. Those days there were many very good brazilian strikers but got overshadowed by the other top strikers.
Sonny Anderson, Amoroso, Derlei, Liedson, Ewerthon, Guilherme Alves are all on par etc. But all of them are below the likes of Jardel, Bebeto and Edmundo.
Really insane how many good strikers there are last time

So due to @A_G being a bit busy I'm being brought off the bench to finish this first round off...
And today we've got @A_G vs @Steps... and unfortunately Steps has been letting the world know he's rolling into this one almost certain he's going to lose.
Maybe a bit of reverse psychology from the Special One but we wait to see if this bold strategy of his plays off. Meanwhile after a strong start it seems @A_G and his boys ran out of steam in the ranking tournament so he'll be nervously hoping it was a blip and not a full collapse.
Anyway here are the teams:
The game starts with a lot of bad blood... Riquelme is booked for a reducer on Vitinha just five minutes in which immediately leads to a scrap.
It seems to have fired up A_G FC though as they get the best of the early exchanges. Riquelme in particular is causing the midfield two for Steps a lot of problem as he glides between the lines and on 9 minutes it's Riquelme who carries the ball unchecked through the middle of the pitch.
He plays a slide rule pass across to Pires who shapes inside, Hakimi desperately lunges trying to cover the inevitable shot from the left of the box which draws a good save from Valdes who palms it round the post.
The game slows down a bit after that with Alonso dropping deep to track Riquelme with Seedorf tucking inside and the game plan works as Vitinha is freed up in the middle of the park. A loose pass from Mascherano is cut out by Alonso who fires it down the left ahead of Ribery who dribbles down the wing, nutmegs Maxwell and hits it low to the edge of the box for the onrushing Vitinha who...
Great save from Buffon! It was going in the corner but the Italian clawed it away.
From the corner it's scrambled away by Desailly and it falls to Vitinha again! He absolutely hammers it from the D and... a wonder save from Buffon! Even better than the first it's fingertip stuff to keep A_G level.
Aside from a Shevchenko yellow for kicking the ball away the half drifts away without a lot happening. Seconds to go before half time the referee checks his watch but after some careless play from Vitinha it seems A_G FC will get one last attack...
Di Maria hits a diagonal ball into the box for Ibrahimovic who holds off Varane... takes it on his chest and buries it past Valdes! What a goal! 1-0 to A_G FC
@Steps is furious on the sideline - it looked like Ibrahimovic was grabbing Varane's shirt there but referee and friend of AG @Rex Caudillo says the goal stands much to the rage of the Steps Albion staff.
Half time and a great result for the mods so far and it looks like the fix is in.
Changes at the half for both teams... clearly worried about Riquelme getting a second yellow on comes Cazorla and Mascherano is swapped early surprisingly for Toulalan.
Meanwhile Steps clearly isn't happy with the result and after a pretty nightmarish first half off comes the unlucky Vitinha for the more attacking Gotze and Seedorf for Reus. With one nominal midfielder on the pitch clearly it's caution to the wind.
20 minutes in though and it looks like a giant error as there's a counter attack for @A_G FC and just as Cazorla is about to play the ball into Ibrahimovic for a 1 on 1 the Spaniard is almost rugby tackled by the desperate Reus who's booked by a furious Rexeree.

What a hit as he finds the top corner! 2-0 to A_G FC and the referee is celebrating with the players! Disgraceful scenes here - THE FIX IS IN!
Things are getting desperate now for Steps and as the clock runs down it looks like his team is heading out. He's even thrown on the donkey Andre Schurrle to reprieve Shevchenko who's had a shocker of his own.
The ball is with A_G FC and Thuram plays it to his centre back Ayala... who falls over the ball! Haaland nicks it away and a desperate Ayala rugby tackles him! Moment of madness there from the Argentine... and even Rex has to give that as a penalty. Surely a red card for Ayala... but no not even a booking.
Anyway instead of the Norwegian who's receiving treatment up steps substitute Marco Reus and...
It's 2-1! Steps Albion are back in it.
Double whammy for Steps though as Hakimi is shattered and has to be replaced by Lucas whilst Haaland their superstar looks like he won't be able to continue for the last 10 minutes and Overmars has to be subbed in.
With minutes left Steps Albion is throwing everything forward. The ball is with Gotze who shimmies past Toulalan and plays it into substitute Ribery who pulls back a fiendish cross... Schurrle arriving for a tap in... HE FALLS OVER THE BALL!
But OH NO! It's a comical own goal from Roberto Ayala who didn't anticipate Schurrle missing. 2-2 in the last minute.
Ayala has had the 10 minutes from his nightmares as he's single handedly brought Steps level.

I think you could definitely put Giovane Elber in that discussion too. Always thought he was very talented but was overshadowed by the amount of options Brazil had.
Generally when you compare plethora of strikers in that era to what we have now it’s actually a joke
players like Roy Makaay and Diego Tristan would probably be 70m+ players.

After an unbelievable end to the 90 minutes... A_G looks stunned but he's trying to push his team on as it's still all to play for. With substitute Van Nistelrooy on it looks like a 4-4-2 with Cazorla and Di Maria wide.
And his team seems to have listened because from the kick off the ball goes to Di Maria on the left flank up against makeshift RB Ruben Dias. He toys with him and beats him round the outside... gets the ball to Maxwell on the underlap and he whips it across for...
What a header from Zlatan! 3-2 A_G FC
And he celebrates with generational hypeman Maxwell. To some it might seem weird that the left back follows Zlatan around like a dog but today it has paid off in spades...
Steps is fuming and without any substitutes left he has to rely on his team to lock in. Minutes later some great play from Ribery again cuts the A_G backline to ribbons... he's one on one with Buffon he could score... but squares it selflessly to Schurrle who...
HOW HAS HE MISSED THAT! With the goal gaping he's somehow hit the outside of the post and @A_G survives.
The half winds down and there's 15 minutes left for @Steps to find a response. Great wing play right after the restart puts Reus up against Desailly who he plays a 1-2 with Gotze to avoid... he’s into the box and the cut back. Surely this time...
HE'S MISSED AGAIN! Two glorious chances for Schurrle have been squandered and you have to wonder if Shevchenko or Haaland are on the pitch @Steps would probably have won this game.
Steps takes Schurrle aside and tries to show him where the goal is but remains to be seen if this will work...
Time is running out and with just seconds remaining the ball is with Ribery. He skins Maxwell out on the right and passes the ball to Reus who turns... slips it into Overmars... shapes to shoot AND!
BLATANT HANDBALL FROM DESAILLY! What was he thinking? But wait...
No call from Rex! The linesman is flagging furiously but incredibly the rexeree ignores him and blows for full time! That was as clear a penalty as you'll see but @A_G wins as the game is over.
@Steps loses it as Rex rips off his refereeing kit to reveal an A_G FC kit and is lifted onto the shoulders of his favourite team.
A_G wins 3-2 after Extra Time. Fans driving home from the game are shocked to see Andre Schurrle walking on the side of the road in tears after @Steps refused to let him on the bus.

Thought there was a chance after full time and I actually stood up and walked around the house for a bit hoping we'd get the result before I sat back down and read the Extra Time.
