ARSENAL want Spanish ace Ander Herrera and are mulling over Real Zaragoza's asking price of £7million.

Gunners chief executive Ivan Gazidis met the midfielder's agents yesterday in London.

Zaragoza's debts mean they are considering a loan agreement where Arsenal pay 60 per cent of Herrera's salary until he becomes a free agent in 2013.

Arsène Wenger has been keen on the 20-year-old for six months and has had him watched twice in recent weeks.

Wenger also wants to have a replacement for Cesc Fabregas should he leave this summer.

Zaragoza president Agapito Iglesias said: "The interest in Herrera is true. If Arsenal want the kid they must pay his true value in the transfer market."

Herrera, also wanted by Fiorentina, declared: "I'll leave this business to my agents."

Looks like our interest in Herrera is genuine.

Real Zaragoza midfielder Ander Herrera has admitted that he is flattered by the reported interest in him from Arsenal.

The 20-year-old Basque only made his debut for Zaragoza last August, but the Gunners are reportedly keen to conclude a deal for the Spain Under-21 international.

And although the player insists that he is focused on his current club, he admits that it would be a dream to work with Arsène Wenger in north London.

"It is a compliment to see a great club looking at me, but I would say Arsenal is like a dream," he told AS.

"But all these questions are pointless, Zaragoza remains my priority - nothing and no-one will divert my attention.

"Of course you hear things, but my agent is not going to say anything that might divert my attention before the end of the season in Spain.

"My only goal now is to help save Zaragoza, but then if there is something we shall see."

Zaragoza have confirmed that Arsenal are interested in the player, but have also insisted that they will not be shortchanged when it comes to a deal.

"The interest in Herrera is true, but if Arsenal want the kid they must pay his true value," club president Agapito Iglesias said.

Reports from Spain indicate that the Gunners have lodged a bid of £8.8 million (€10m). However, Zaragoza are belived to be holding out for £13.3m (€15m).

Herrera reportedly has a buy-out clause in his contract of £21m (€24m).

Has anybody seen him play? He must be really good for us to be considering spending 8 mill plus given that we have up and coming youngsters like Lansbury vying for similar positions.

Scouting report

Highlight for me is
Ander is capable of playing on the left of midfield, central midfield or behind a striker and possesses good ball control, pace and passing range. He’s not proven a big scorer for Zaragoza yet but he is still 20 and is still developing. Already a frequent performer for the first team despite his young age, Ander looks set to have a bright future in the game.
Rosicky/Shava Wilshere/?. I'm not sure he'd be bought as a direct Cesc replacement.

Rosicky is notorious for his injury issues while Arshavin has often had trouble with match fitness. Picking up a talented player in that position to quickly blood through the ranks sounds like a good idea.

It's increasingly looking like Merida is off to Atl Madrid, anyway. This confirms it.

Just a twitter link, but this guy was apparently sporting director of AS Monaco previously so maybe he knows something. Unless its a fake account or something I dunno.

I can see why hes a player AW is tracking. Great technical skill and a special talent. Problem is that Bilbao will only sell him for 40 mil.

Quality player but not what we need in midfield. At this point I'd be very happy with him.
