Andrea Berta Take Us To The Title

Yousif Arsenal

Was on Vinai's payroll; misses 4th place trophy 🏆
Berta don't negotiating deals its Garlick and the others from board.

Berta use his connection and he recommend targets people put too much focus on him about negotiating deals there so many involved.

But we didn't "dilly-dally", Aston Villa moved the goal posts and changed the valuation based on Man City paying over £100m for Anderson and inflating the transfer market. We weren't willing to go that high for him, simple. At some point, clubs have to take a stand and be sensible financially.
Could have go him earlier than Anderson, we thought we could get him for 80 not 100 by waiting and dragging out a deal he and we thought was done.

Yes, it's also a collective decision by the recruitment team as I mentioned in this post.

But that is what we were quoted earlier in the season. How did we know when Man City were going to buy Anderson? Again, we didn't drag out anything, Aston Villa moved the goalposts and we walked away.

Is Berta on fraud watch now?

His first summer window was a top notch imo, spent a wad and completed our squad - we went and won the title
His second summer window was somewhat underwhelming but we still got in some top players - Tzolis, Bruno G and Konsa is decent but not top notch.

He's slipping towards fraud watch without being directly on it imo

A little too late.

He's probably telling him he crunched the numbers on his Excel sheet & found him to be a 5 on the recruitment scale.

Would explain why Joao Pedro looked deflated in the second half.

I would say he is on fraud watch. The failure to land a LW is a big one considering that was the position everyone and their dog knew was the one that needed strengthening. Cant blame Teta either I remember from the John Cross biography of Wenger there were instances where Wenger had a valuation for the player and Dein overruled it to pay more because we needed the player. A good DOF knows what needs to be done and does it even if it means paying more than expected.

We don't know if Berta has permission to pay more than expected, more than Arsenal evaluation of certain player is.
Arsenal walked away from Rogers and Barcola, because they thought thy were too expensive.
We don't know who had final say in these decisions, Berta or those above him.

IMO a good DoF identifies the gaps and makes the deals happen. If the valuations are off he rationalizes them and gets it done. Dein used to do it no reason why Betta couldn’t

I mostly agree with you but if you look at the actual LWFs we were interested

Kvara - didn't fancy the move and the rumours died very quickly in the window but he'd be my first choice
Vini - wanted Madrid and we were second choice, Madrid ponied up so we didn't get him.
Barcola - not worth that money
Rogers - not worth that money

I agree with you largely on the individual valuation vs overall squad profile thing btw, and a complete squad has the capability of increasing the values of individual players anyway since you're more likely to win things. But yeah...Rogers for 120m

The thing I would question is how do you determine if a player is worth the money or not? If you pull up the list of LW in the EPL there is a serious lack of talent in this position. If you extend it further to world football which LW would you actually rate? IMO there is a serious shortage of quality which allows the selling clubs to set the price. Barcola/Rogers at 120m look outrageous but if you don’t sign them who do you go for? Prices are set by market conditions and when there is a massive shortage there is inflation. Overpaying by 30m or whatever to get the player you want is worth it because you don’t really have a lot of options. With the league being the way it is and the shortage of LW talent being clear maybe its worth paying over your valuation ie the premium to get the player you need?

That 25/26 window will end up as a howler for us
Gyok - Blunder by Berta
Noni - Meh. His footwork is faster than his IQ.
Eze - Meh. Not good enough in attack or defence.
Zubi - Already benched
Kepa - Bad signing with no future.
Nogaard - Moved on within a year.

That's 250m+ of below par players.

Good chance Berta ends up as a worse DOF than Edu.

Gyok - still have resell value
Noni - still have resell value
Eze - still have resell value
Zubi - still have resell value
Kepa - free agent
Nogaard - minimum loss

Those players contributed to our first title in 22 years as back ups. They still have value when we decides to move on.

And now you can compare to Edu purchase.
