The only reason I haven't fully crashed out over the lack of a superstar attacker is the moves we've made in the 16-18 age bracket. I'm excited for the Quintero twins and Bartashvii. Igor Tyjon looks a handful, and while we missed out on Monga, I liked the effort. It's the sort of moves that Chelsea and City do well. I don't see us buying any attacker in January, but we probably do one of these deals again. In fact, it's the only sort of business we can accomplish if you believe we are close to breaking the SCR caps.

It was the same case with Cherki, I think people need to separate whether they like a player, assumptions on how they are + the attachment element with a player’s attributes, what he can offer us in our system and how it’ll help us succeed in reaching our goals. Everything else I regard as fluff.

I just found it ironic how fans were turning their noses at wide players left, right and centre then when it came to Malick Fofana who obviously has some decent attributes but clearly isn’t at the level yet compared to some of the other players who were on the move towards the end of the window, they were more open to it for some strange reason.

You could be wrong, you could be right. The great thing about football is that these players will always prove people wrong/right.

Idk which of the forwards that this place looked down on this summer will end up becoming a top player but it’s inevitable that some of them will and then we’ll be complaining about how they’re too expensive now or priced out of a move.

I think Barcola was a big miss but hey, maybe not. The club should have at least tried because it seems the alternative is that we’ve basically accepted that LW will be a weakness for this current win-now window. Very unlikely there’s going to be a player who emerges this Jan or next summer that’s going to be ready to contribute to a PL/CL push in the 27/28 season. If we had signed them this summer then maybe they would have been.

Yeah a desperate move is pointless but I think someone like Fofana just to get a body in, on respectable wages would be an easy flip to another PL side. City and Chelsea do it all the time, the only reason we struggle is because we pay too high.

It seems the club genuinely view LW as Eze v Tzolis so whatever. We’ll see how that goes

They want whomever the manager wants because they refuse to believe that sometimes he exhibits poor talent ID and judgment. Look how many of them are moaning about not breaking a transfer record to try to make Rogers something he's not.

The inalienable fact is that either of the Madrid clubs would have sold Vini and/or Alvarez to us if they could have been convinced to join. Both players were attainable from the selling club's perspective and from our ownership perspective. The money was made available to do either deal. The recruitment failed. Now if I have a son and I'm willing to pay for him to go to Harvard but he can't get into Harvard, I would hope that he wouldn't just elect to not go to college. I would hope that maybe we could pivot to Columbia or Brown.

Vini is a special case where I'm quite sure the bean counters explained to KSE that whatever the wages were would pay for themselves in terms of raising the profile of the club but nobody is going to convince me that the owners who were willing to pay for an Alvarez who has none of Vini's marketability would have balked at paying Barcola's fee if the manager who just won them the league who they're in contract negotiations with wanted him and that can extend down to other targets like Ndiaye etc. so this notion that there was absolutely no middle ground between Vini and/or Alvarez and doing absolutely f*cking nothing is nonsense.

We have the benefit of this ownership group owning multiple professional teams and that's not how they operate anywhere else or even at this club truth be told because we know Rice's price went well beyond their valuation but the manager lobbied them and they went something like 25-30 million over what they were expecting to shell out. In cases where you can't convince the Rice level primary target then the compromise has to come from the manager being willing to work with a different option and if he had been willing to, we'd have seen a signing.

It also strikes me as maybe not a coincidence that the player who most clearly represents Arteta being forced to compromise and work with an alternative to his preferred signing was left out of 2 matches he should surely have seen minutes in. But we just were, we went after two of the highest profile attackers seemingly available this summer. In fact, it seems we were only really in for elite attackers after getting Tzolis.

This makes perfect sense tbh but nobody really wants to hear that Arteta’s specificity makes things difficult. It really is everyone’s fault.

I agree with your post. For me, a lot of these guys at the club including those below say all the buzzwords and talk a good game but I feel like there are just too many cooks in the kitchen and involved in the decision making process:



They can change the structure, hire fresh faces etc as many times as they want but when we can’t shake off those old habits even when we won a league title and got to a CL final then the alarm bells should be going off. “Dynasty” it’s like the whole show ambition/tough decisions quote straight after the CL final.

Depends how they doing tbh. Going by Artetas history Gyokeres is done at arsenal cause once he realise you ain’t it, then that’s it. Unless Kai has mental breakdown like Zubi he’s untouchable and that donkey for all his flaws is mentally strong
