Think we all want Isak because he's basically a unicorn. 6 ft 4" and has filled out his frame a bit so is now strong when having to hold of defenders, rapid, skilfull, can manipulate the ball in tight spaces, has a great shot on him and a great range of finishes both inside and outside the box.

If we're thinking about the way we play and various strengths / weaknesses of the likes of Sesko and Ekiteke, I still believe for what we come up against in our league Sesko is the better option out the 2 long term. Neither are perfect like Isak would be, but his potential box presence and ball striking just swing it for me.

From a Newcastle point of view, if, and it's a big if, they didn't qualify for the Champions League and Isak did want to go I'd be giving serious consideration of doing a deal at £120-£130M, and looking at going back in for Ekiteke and maybe someone like David as well to replace Isak and Wilson.

If they were true to their word of a couple of seasons and realise they might need to trade for PSR reasons, then Isak out, Ekiteke and David in and a very large profit (remember they would spread out the Ekiteke cost on the books over the length of his contract and book most of the Isak income at point of sale) starts to become very tempting I would suggest.

Apologies, Ekitike that should say, not Ekiteke like my phone keeps changing it to. 🤦🏻‍♂️

You guys need to let go of signing Newcastle players and worry about them signing our players. The rules stopping the Saudis will be gone soon
You are expecting that APT rules will be abandoned?
These rules are the only obstacle that stops Man City and Newcastle owners to invest billions every year in their clubs. Because these rules prevent clubs from profiting from commercial deals with companies linked to their owners that are deemed above 'fair market value'
Essence of every sport is fair competition.
Without these rules Premier league will abandon any hint of fairness.
I wouldn't follow such competition.
Would you?

There is another point there, how would UEFA and European clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, etc. react to the fact that Man City and Newcastle (even more because Newcastle owners are richer than owners of another 19 EPL clubs including City combined together) could spend as much as they like without any limits?
Do you think that they would allow it?

Well Arteta just crossed his name off the striker list.

Wait till you see the Yamal, Samu and Nico tik tok, gives me Lacazette, Auba and Mustafi vibes.

You know Arteta is raging.

Very interesting thread... I've only watched clips yet I already knew this, scouting in football is dead.

Our next striker simply can’t be an xG underachiever.

The only reason I haven’t written off Hugo is because he’s been an over achiever his entire career up until this season which is also his first one being a full-time starter.

In an ideal world you’d let him (and Sesko) cook for one more season but needs must. This is why Isak is pretty much a legacy defining signing for Arteta, all the other options have major question marks against them.

Which is exactly why we can't get Isak, Arteta would find a different way to f*ck it up. At the negotiating stage at this point I hope he blows all our money on defenders again so we can tank next season and get a new manager in halfway through finally.

He deserves a front three of Trossard Merino Calafiori forever. Give Saka as long as it takes to return at 100% under Inzaghi and we'll walk this piece of piss league

What he did to Saliba at St James’ I’ve never seen before.

I was skeptical he was an in behind merchant, which suits Newcastle’s style perfectly and not necessarily ours, but even in the first game the guy was effortlessly dropping back into midfield and linking the play.

Gut feeling is he was a project defining singing (like Salah for Liverpool), and we took the wrong option with GJ.

Unfortunately don’t think this signing is even remotely possible now.

Since chances of getting Isak are very slim, what then?
If Arteta needs 130m (or whetever value) striker to win the league, he isn't the man for the job.

I'm afraid that Kroenkes don't think that next season is must win for Arteta.
As long as asrenal play UCL, he is safe.

We have to look at other CL team wage bills. Only teams having higher wage bill than us have won CL in last 10 years.
(Except Manchester United and PSG)

We need some world renowned talent which is not too highly paid ( we should be able to move them in future if they turn to be ****.)

Those numbers are inflated by Mbappe who has since left. Paris highest earner is Dembélé who's on a lower salary than Havertz

Those numbers are for the entire club by the way, not just the playing staff. PSG's current PLAYER wage bill annually is £185M. Ours is £168M.

Yeah, when it's really slim pickings out there then like you say, getting a proper difference maker signing like that right can really define a project.

Sometimes there's no real exact science, you need a bit of luck as well, as we all know Newcastle had an offer accepted for Ekitike that summer but he ended up refusing to go. They also bid for João Pedro and didn't get it accepted and Isak was only completed a week or so before the deadline.

Inzaghi probably plays Saka as a wing back, the ****ing weirdo.

The way he picked the ball off of Saliba with his outstretched leg, that was just unreal. Saliba actually defended that situation as well as one could have but was outdone by a moment of sheer brilliance.
