That's not entirely true. The decision to sign a player would have also been discussed with Edu and the scouting/coaching team. It's a group decision.

The midfield setup was the main stand out form me from last night, still raging at Partey for that stupid booking against Real. A Rice / Merino pairing just hasn't cooked. The midfield lacked our usual structure, a bit of technicality in there, and it looked a bit lost at times to be honest.

I see again why we need Zubimendi, someone to orchestrate. And like you say, we need a substitute for him if he's not available.

Rice just isn’t a 6 man, he can do the job but it limits him far too much and build up isn’t his speciality. Even yesterday all of his best stuff was driving forward with the ball which better suits him at 8.

Merino and Ødegaard were always going to struggle up against Neves and Vitinha.

Yep we need someone who can run the ball in the midfield and play forward, only time we looked good was when MLS did it.

Think Ødegaard has became a massive problem in this team. Personally I’d rather see us go for the cheaper option at CF (Watkins or even Mateta) if it means bringing in a Rodrygo for LW and an elite AM.
That said I’d love to see Saka in that 10 role, think he’s got everything needed to be that elite central creative player.
