1 in 1 out doesn't make sense when we have a smaller squad size.

We don't have as many injuries as Sp**s but still we are in bare bones situation like them. Because we have a smaller squad. Need to increase by 2 at least. Especially with the extra CL games and the football calendar getting bigger as well.

We basically have two first team players for every position, even with FV and Nelson out on loan.

J20, #5, Nelson and Vieira are all pretty much confirmed to be going though so not sure I buy this idea we need to make a big sale to sign 3 players.

If we are going by the two per position model

Raya, Setford
White, Timber
Saliba, Tomi
Gabriel
MLS, Calafiori
Rice, Merino
Ødegaard, Nwaneri
Saka, Nelson
Havertz, Jesus
Trossard, Martinelli

We always say XYZ will leave and they never do. I think we might get a surprise sale in the summer (Saliba, Martinelli, Gabriel or Merino). But then obviously Zinchenko, Jorginho, Partey and probably Kiwior are on the definitely leave list with Tomi having this operation and out for god knows how long.

In terms of the back line as long as no unexpected sales occur we probably sign a versatile youngster. Obviously Joan Garcia will probs come as backup goalie.

In terms of the midfield it depends where Mikel sees Nwaneri and Havertz. But Zubimendi and another younger creative mid are a must (Nypan). Nwaneri is the obvious creative winger/8 that we've wanted.

Jesus will be out for what, 9 months? And we will be signing a striker so that's cool, hopefully Isak but more than likely Sesko. The question is does Arteta now think we would have enough given how good Nwaneri has been off the right?

It’s not nice hearing this, but Arteta and Ayto will be looking at DM/CB as immediate areas to address in the summer, as we are loosing #5 and J20, as well as Kiwior most likely, with only Zubimendi likely coming in.

They’ll 100% think we are two players short in those areas of the pitch.

And striker due to Jesus' injury. Zubi, Garcia and that striker will be the early deals imo.

Then only move for a defender after Zinny/Kiwior leave. Same with Nelson, we've shown that we will move if Nelson can go so that's encouraging.

We would be stupid not to move for Nico straight away if he's now willing to come.

It'll be a very interesting summer that's for sure, lots and lots to do. I feel like they've got 3 or 4 wrapped up already to be fair.

Calafiori, White and Timber are all CBs. The whole point of having versatile players is to have less players. Otherwise we could just get natural fullbacks

But with the outs being questioned we would have 6 defenders, Tomi doesn't count right now imo.

I wouldn't be panicking just yet at the 1 in 1 out stuff, only last weekend we were getting fed we're in for an 'unprecedented' summer. The reality will be somewhere in between the 2.

Even if it is 1 in 1 out, it makes sense. Why would you buy a left winger when you already have Martinelli and Trossard there? You might get away with it if that option can play both wings to a high level ie Semenyo / Williams. We have the numbers (apart from centre forward), we just don't have the quality.

Yep and RW is less of a problem now with Nwaneri.

It'll still be an unprecedented summer spend wise imo. Especially if we get the main targets.

I don't think they're going to sign a CB if Kiwior goes. I think it's more likely they sign a fullback which would allow Calafiori or Timber to play more regularly at CB.
Going by the past I would be shocked if Kiwior isn’t replaced by a CB. I do think they will also sign another LB

Tomiyasu's fitness is a large fly in the ointment squad wise for defence.

On paper, he's the ideal 'cover' player. Able to play all across the backline, and has a very decent floor level. In terms of numbers we still have Kiwior, Zinchenko & Tierney available to us for this season.

That being the case, i'd be writing off this season for him, and getting him any op's or that that are needed to fix any longstanding issues in the hope we can get him fit and increase availability of him for the coming seasons.

Would leave us with

White - Timber - Saliba - Gabriel - Calafiori - Lewis-Skelly - Tomiyasu.

If we were to make a signing in defence, where should it be? Left side because of Calafiori's fitness worries?

What’s the point signing another left footed CB? Already got Gabriel and Calafiori for that.
It’s needed more than a right footed CB. Right side has Saliba Timber White. I also personally don’t think Calafiori is ready to play CB for us, he’s been amazing going forward but suspect in defence. We have way more solid RCBs.

Technically we have 4 players to cover the right side but only 3 of Kiwi and Zinny leave for the left..

Hato is multi functional anyway.

Arsenal Quotes

No one could have imagined for a single second that he would come to us. Only David Dein, Sol, his agent, and I knew what was going on. When I called a press conference to announce the arrival of a new player, and Sol Campbell walked into the room full of journalists, it was a bombshell.
