The club is obsessed with value for money, but in the wrong way.

It's why we rather pay a bit less and not have players in for pre season under the context you've described.

Coming from a position of strength for Arsenal likely means "we get to save money" and not "we get to be ready before everyone ".
Not true tbf. Last summer we will miles apart in valuation for Madueke but Chelsea needed badly to sell before the deadline to comply with FFP and we immediately helped to cough up the amount they wanted.

We even flew him straight from the club world cup to Colney so we can have him for pre-season.

In before people telling us how much of the transfer window we have left, even though it ignores the fact that having players ready for a full pre season is important.

We may start the first 4-5 games of the season without Saka and Rice. We need to bring in quality who will be 100% ready on that first PL game.

We can’t do this last minute reactionary crap we used to do under Gazidis which has carried through to even today.

Last summer we signed Gyokeres Eze Hincapie really late into the window IIRC.
Both Saka and Rice will start first game. There’s 4 weeks between the wc final and Coventry game

I think the next two weeks we will focus on Konsa. After that let’s see if there are any bargains. Trossard been replaced by Tzolis already

Far be it from me to trust the club over transfer, but if England/France/Argentina (on the Alvarez off chance) get knocked out this week and you don't see movement in the following 7 or so days after that, than by all means start sounding the alarm bells.

Would be a lot worse if we were getting linked to a bunch of Tzolis, rather than guys still playing the tournament.

Alvarez/Kroupi and Rogers/Tzolis then we are cooking.

Timing doesn't matter so long as the right signings are made. Alvarez is a whole saga in itself which is worth waiting for, considering he is the best attacker in the market this window. Then taking into account the world cup of course it is a strange summer.

I'll be more worried if the quality of signings is poor, over the timing. Just need to wait and see what happens but have to be optimistic considering the position we are in both in footballing and financial terms there's no reason to not get top signings done. I'm sure we will.

That's not what happened. They would of sold for 45m or maybe less but we wanted to pay it off over 5 years so we paid more. Helped their FFP, helped our cash flow. Helped us sign more players that window. Because we only spent 10m on Madueke that season

It also means when we're making way more money in 3-5 years time, the 10m per season will be much less of a percentage outgoing

It's essentially a 35m transfer for us if you understand the time value of money

This is a nice summary of the club’s mentality.

I feel they’re obsessed with getting the best deal and winning some kind of ‘best run club’ award that must exist and we just haven’t heard of it.
