I try not to take this time for the year too seriously. I remember a time raving about Pepe transfer because of the highlights and production I saw.

Turned out to be one giant money laundering experience and ended up with a depressed player... That was last time I was overhyped about a player.

I'm not barcolas biggest fan he's obviously good player and not Pepe lol. I just like to counter the sentiment of "let's get in there and gazump pool"... Nah I'm good. Didn't gazump them for real players in the past why would we do it on gakpos replacement.

Centre of the park is what wins you matches and titles. With Guimares coming in and the emergence of MLS there we're even better than last season and we were very good already.

We won the title with an underperforming Martinelli and an ageing Trossard, we even had Madueke starting more matches than we'd have liked with Sakas injury issues. You can get by with wingers more than you can with CB's or CM's.

I'm not saying I don't want a LW, I do want a top one ( or close to it) if but we've already brought in a risky signing there and we've proven you can win the title with non ideal players on the wings. I don't see the point in bringing in a marginal upgrade. I'd prefer to fill that spot with a top player down the line if one isn't available this window.

I largely agree with this but we've had an opportunity over the last few windows to sign a top LW and haven't done so. This group is good enough to win multiple titles and a CL and we should be doing all we can to support this group. Kicking the can down the road for so long has led to this.

Gyok on the other hand will be very tough. His stock isn’t going to get much higher than it is now.

Saka had his worst ever season in terms of output and was playing hurt for a lot of it. Martinelli had his worst ever season in output in the PL, Havertz was injured for 70+% of the season.

Are you saying you're expecting zero improvement from those three especially wrt Saka x Havertz?

This is why we’ve started to see insane prices for midfielders recently btw. The numbers are showing what position has been undervalued for years. Midfielders, strong CB partnerships, etc are what gets you over the line. It’s also the reason why there seems to be a dearth of striker talent. When you really really really think about it… they’re not really THAT valuable

What makes you so certain Saka and Havertz wouldn't have injury problems this upcoming season? In the case of Saka never forget what achilles injuries did to Cazorla and Vermaelen.

Kind of shocking that this place is pretending that Havertz is a decent footballer. He has been consistently awful in the Premier League since the day he arrived. The fact that he missed a lot of last season was a blessing since we never would have won the league if he had been available more often.

I do yeah.

The reason I say that is only a few injuries to a few players renders our entire attacking system ineffective. And that is bound to happen over the course of the season.

Injuries become more likely l when you only have a few players you can rely on (Kai arguably being most important now).

We are one Kai injury away from last season, where we can’t keep the ball at all in the final third and essentially play with one less attacker.
