So we pay 50odd million for Konsa despite having an initial valuation of 35m, that’s going like 40% over your initial valuation.

Our issue is we’re happy to go 40% over for Konsa or Bruno, but not Barcola or Rodgers, because then that would take you well over the 100m figure, which seems to be a mental block for them.

Fundamentally, their valuations of forwards are not calibrated correctly for the current market.

Konsa at that price for his age must be one of the most expensive deals ever for a CB? We got absolutely rinsed by Villa.

I think it's all wage related. We seem to overpay when we sign players and too quickly increase wages when we renew contracts.

According to Capology (admittedly it has been referred to as Crapology by someone but I don't see what other website has wage estimates), Nico earns 75k. To put it in perspective, Nwaneri earns 80k, Nelson 100k and Madueke 150k.

It seems like we have over corrected since the dreadful 2005-2013 period where we kept losing our players to our rivals due to our inability to match the wage offers, or we have some internal belief that higher remuneration results in better performance and morale.

@TakeChillPill said this the other day. The initial contracts we put certain players on are far too high and we bump up salaries way too quickly. Martinelli in hindsight is one where the club should have seen the xG over performance and not be fooled.

Only undisputed first teamers should be getting big money.

Our wage structure needs a complete overhaul. I think it's the #1 reason why we can't shift players.
